The ONLY modification I make to my carry guns is the addition of night sights. ALWAYS. Other than that, I only require (as did another poster) RELIABILITY.

Since I shoot my 1911s with a high thumb I prefer extended safeties (stock kimber safeties are fine) and standard slide stops. I also prefer rubber Kimber or pearce grips, all my 1911s wear them, I even keep an extra set for a GM and an OM in case I buy one that doesnt have them (I just used the set of GMs though - time to get another pair). A night sight up front is a definate plus, my 4" Kimber has them on the back as well.

No huge mag buttons. No FLGRs (I even swapped out the one in my 3.5" Para). No magwells.

My Kahr and Taurus M85 are havent been customized at all. Those are the only non-1911 style pistols I own. I plan on a night sight for the front of the Kahr.

RELIABILITY. Light enough for all-day carry with a good belt/holster combination.

I am the odd man out, I like to gussy them up. I like aftermarket. I can never leave well enough alone.

Trigger work, and usually new trigger, new safety, new mags, new grips, new sights, skatebaord tape or serrations, reliability & carry package, just to name a few mods I have done.

I am however biased towards 1911's so mod'n them is esier then some other platforms.

As long as it accepts a Wilson, 8 rd mag, . . . as long as the mag holds .45 ACP, . . . as long as it has a grip safety, . . . . as long as it is single action, . . . chances are I would probably carry it: after I put 200 rounds through it to make sure it didn't do something stupid like not shoot. I personally like a generally plain jane .45, 1911 full size, . . . but there a a few steps up I would go.

Negative on ambi safeties, same to mag well funnels, 3 dot white sights or GI are fine for me, just keeping it simple.

    May God bless,

at the time I did not have the funds to go full custom and went as I could (college budget) Now I just buy full custom a la Nighthawk Custom. As for the Wife's 1911, I wanted to make sure she liked it before I dropped major coin into it.

what parts do you need? I was just rooting around in a spare parts box and gave a bunch to a friend but I am sure there are a ton of useful stuff in there.

On that note I ordered two Mitchell Mag Mashers which flips the mag release to the other side. I got to try one at the SHOT show and it makes mag changes that much easier as you do not have to alter your grip, thereby not needing to reacquire your grip.

I will post a review when the come in and when I get them installed.
