    Magazine issue!!

I changed the springs in my kimber mags with plus power wolf springs and they wouldn't go down all the way for eight total rounds so I attempted to grind the follower forward end which got me there but I don't want to use ghetto mags in a defensive carry gun. I was looking at chip McCormick mags as an alternative since they are only 25 bucks a pop instead of 40 plus for Wilson combats. Keep in mind that I'm looking for only flush fitting mags, no bumpers!

form a materials stand-point, so long as the spring never got hot it should be fine. simple man's rule is, if you heat a spring up hotter than you can stand to touch with a bare hand, you've messed up the temper and the spring will lose memory. get it too hot and it's gonna get brittle. if it discolored, it's gonna be brittle.

someone who knows 1911 mags better than i will have to pipe up about modifying internals.

I just want good mags that work. How are the shooting star classics from chip McCormick?

I have found that chips are hit or miss. I understand cost can be a factor, but wilson combat mags have been a main stay in my 1911s.....

Wilson Combat D47 mags work VERY well. The wilson's have a scalloped follower, which make the 8th round possible.. This way, the legs of the follower still stay somewhat longer.
COLT 8 round mags are out there. Just gotta scoop em up when you see them.

I use Wilson ETM 8rd. mags. Never had a problem, and that's all I use. Not cheap, but reliability is worth the difference in a carry weapon.

The early 8 round capacity mags just featured modified or replaced followers so your modified follower mags should be fine if you did a good neat job on them and they function correctly.

You might want to audition 1911 AUTO MAGAZINES | Brownells $19.99

I'm looking for only flush fitting mags
I don't know if anyone makes reliable flush fitting 8 rounders that are the same size as the 7 rounders. WC mags stick out, iirc. The Brownells stick out 1/4".
8-Rd model has a removable polymer base pad that frees up enough internal space to accommodate the extra round without compromising reliability.

I see a lot of vouching for Wilson mags. Could someone show me a picture of what they look like when inserted in the mag well?

Love the Wilson ETMs. Saturday my friend was having FTF issues with his SR1911, he was thinking his gun had problems. I handed him a Wilson ETM and no more problems. He went home and ordered two.
