Well, I did it. I bought a TCP.

On sale at Scheels for $199. I didn't want to go the 380 route but after pocketing it yesterday I realized how comfortable and truly tiny it was. I realized I made the right choice. Haven't shot it yet but I plan to as soon as I find some ammo that's non-defense.

The trigger is buttery smooth and seems to be well built. The takedown is cake. I love it. And I'm starting to see a trend in what I like in pistols :

    Smooth trigger
    Easy and quick take down
    Quality slide release
    Pointability

It only has a two finger grip but for some reason I can "thumbs forward" my hands to cup each other so it feels like a full grip. Amazing. It's a D-series too which is a plus!

How do you know you made the right choice if you haven't shot it?

Buzz kill, I know. But for realz.

Hope it doesn't fail to feed randomly like 2 of mine did. Was a great pocket gun minus that.

I love my TCP. After 200 flawless rounds I had a few feed issues. Checked the Taurus forum and got a quick fix. A quick outward a tweak of the mag lips outwards with a set of quality needle nose pliers. Been 100% since. A buddy of mine bought one and 10 mags. Worked great with all but 2 mags. I gave them the quick tweak at the range and they were perfect after that.

I didn't realize it had a lock, so I got an instruction manual -- found the following two warnings right after the instructions for locking and unlocking:

    WARNING
Securing your firearm may inhibit access to it in a defense situation and
    result in injury or death.
    WARNING
Failure to properly secure a firearm may result in injury or death.

So I guess there's just no winning?

Congrats! Everybody needs at least one little gun.

For ammo selection, go to YouTube and search for "ammo quest 380 final wrapup." STB did a LOT of gel testing (out of a TCP, actually) and found a few brands of ammo that worked well, and a lot more that didn't.

Leave the lock "off" and don't mess with it. If you use it may loosen up and jiggle on when you don't want it or you may forget that it is on.

I just recently purchased a Taurus Poly 85 38+P for the exact same reason as you. Its perfect for quick carry and all sorts of summer clothes. Like you I was very surprised at how smooth the trigger was right out of the box. Its gotten even better with use. Perfect knock around guns. Enjoy.
