    Advice on a Sig P226

Hello everyone, I have been looking at a used Sig P226 9mm. It has stamped on the slide Made in W.Germany. Year of manufacture is (stamped JJ) 1988. By the pictures it appears to be in very good condition. Owner says 200-300 rounds thru the gun. I'm trying to get a grasp on what would be a fair asking price for this gun.
    Thanks!

Are any accessories included (box, papers, # of mags, night sights, ect...)?

With that few rounds through the pistol, I'd ask for close ups of the frame rails and the barrel. Other than a light smiley-face on the latter, both should be near pristine. If not, I'd take his claims with more than a grain of salt.

He's asking $550. If everything checks out, is that a fair price?

Sounds about right esp if the mags are the oringal to the gun and are zippered looking on the back ... The box and the like do add vaule ... To me persoanl I think the German esp W german made ones were pretty good .. I mean I have seen them go for 300-500 but they were pretty beat up .. If this looks good for 550 or so I say yeah ..

Plus no more W german so ...

If it's in good shape, I'd pay that.

just some random info-I believe you can send the older West German p226's back to Sig and have it "Freshened up" of some sorts, basically from my understanding new springs and a new gen mod of some sorts. Not sure if its the extractor or what exactly. Cost is around $275 and doesn't void the warranty. Only reason I know this is because I almost bought a highly used p226 and called sig awhile back to ask about different options. Never purchased so can't remember the details.

Isn't that in the era of the "mud rails"? You may want to get pictures of the frame without slide installed to check.

The mud rails were cut outs on the standard Sig rails, meant to improve reliability when debris entered the pistol in harsh climates. Unfortunately this caused cracks in the frame after a certain round count. I would want the standard frame over one with the cut outs.

That said, the price is fair if the condition is as stated. There are Sig conoseurs who would pay a premium for a German triple numbered Sig.

The mere mention of extra Mec-gar mags raised a red flag with me...I would tend to think people who don't shoot that often wouldn't bother with extra mags, let alone Mecgar mags.

Some people don't track their round count that well. I had no idea that I had put 200 rounds through my bolt rifle I bought in early February already till I checked rangelog

So, I haven't seen it up close yet. I too am skeptical about the round count and I am gonna see it tomorrow unless I change my mind. But...

There is another 226 for sale that is also a German made sig. This gun also looks good, have not seen it up close. Asking $675, which seems really steep.

The gun will include the original red velvet box, 2 factory 15 round magazines, 2 aftermarket 17 round magazines, and a set of factory Sig night sights that have not been installed. Very low round count. Right around 200 rounds.
