    Question Gun Auction sites?

I read some posts on this forum about Auction Arms and Gunbroker.com

Has anyone used these, How well do they work?

I have a FFL dealer I can have things sent too. I just have never used one of these before, and I am not the most trusting of souls.

Can some one give me some pointers, I registered with gunbroker and they have some seemingly good deals. But I am a little shy with my money. I've used ebay are they similar?

Can some one give me some experinces they had with them.?

Auction sellers are like women...some are worth it and some just take your money (relax, ladies, I was just joking).

As long as you are discriminating in who you do business with, it's fine. Plus, some of the best auction sellers have off-auction sites you can buy from, budsgunshop.com for instance.

same thing as Ebay except for the guns and related items. From what I have seen, in my opinion, the guns listed there really aint such a good deal. I was looking for a couple particular handguns a while back, and me being as persistant as nerve agent, I just checked out places on the net till I found what I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, there are some good buys on these auction sites, but if a person was very persistent, you can find anything you want somewhere else. Just my personal opinion. You know, like butt holes, everyone has one and sometimes they stink.

I've made a few purchases at gunbroker, everything went smoothly.

I used GA just recently for a puchase. But it is mainly a "locator". Your actualy business is done over the phone between you and the dealer. So you can use it to get a contact, price and availability and then its all a matter of doing the rest like normal. You can at least determine if its a legitimate business with some feedback and all that. But the rest is same old buyer be carefull stuff. Because you are buying sight unseen. I used it only to find a particular Gun I could not find locally. I did get a good price but that was secondary to the issue.

If some of you have not been on GA lately they just changed the format and site software. A good deal nicer to negotiate than it was before.

    Thanks guys,

There are not any good gun shops around me, and the prices i am seeing on gunbroker are significantly cheaper than I can find at the shops around Montgomery.

I've used both to purchase firearms and accessories; I've had with no problems with either.

Do your "due diligence" with the sellers: prior to a the end of an auction you are interested in, write to the seller and ask questions and ask for references. If they don't take the time to write back to you, that (to me) is a warning sign that I may not want to do business with them.

I have used Gunbroker extensively to both buy and sell. All you need is to find a local FFL holder who is willing to process for you to buy. Selling is another matter. srfl has it right. Due diligence will take you a long way. Make sure you get the FFL & money and keep the FFL on file in case the sell comes back at you some way. I don't use Auctionarms anymore, selling they charge too much and recently they haven't had much selection.

It is a great way to find hard to get used guns.

I think you have to figure in that many of them charge you $20-35 for shipping it to your local FFL, often some of them will charge 3% to use a credit card and then your local FFL is going to charge you something. Figure it all in to see the real price your paying.

Ask questions about the item you
    are bidding on.

Buy from sellers with plenty of good feedback.

Request more pics if you need them, most sellers will be happy to
    send them.

    Don't get into a bidding war,have
a max bid and don't exceed it.

Be aware of all costs like shipping
    and ffl fees.
