    S&W 5906 Problems

S&W 5906 misfeeds WAY too often. Based on rumor, I replaced several parts, including the recoil spring. Still misfeeds.

I'm using brand new factory mags and Remington factory loaded 9mm luger ammo. I'd like to have this as another carry option, but I'm concerned about carrying a gun with reliability problems.

    Anyone got suggestions?

Without actually seeing the misfeed it's a bit difficult to figure the exact problem. What exactly is it doing?
The recoil spring and new mags would have been my first thought on replacement parts. The very first thing I'd do is clean it well and lube it. S&W autos aren't like Glocks. They need to be lubed.
What is it doing when it ejects? Where are the empties going and how far? Are you getting any where the empty doesn't eject completely but then it tries to feed another rd from the mag?
I'd also look at the extractor. Depending on how it is misfeeding it could be the extractor.
Also try different ammo. You don't indicate what kind of Remington ammo you are trying. The 5900 guns usually aren't real picky about what they like but there is the occasional one that might not feed certain ammo.
Has this been worked on by anyone? If so, it's hard to say what they've done to it. Some guys will try polishing the ramp but will actually grind it instead of polishing. If that's the case then hard to say what it will take to get it running right.

It's feeding another round in after failing to eject the empty...

Sounds like a bad extractor. They'll chip particularly if someone loads it by dropping a round in the chamber and then releasing the slide instead of feeding it thru the mag. Once chipped they'll do exactly as you describe. Any gunsmith worth the name would be able to replace it. Not a big job. Or you could contact S&W about sending it back to them. They'll go thru it while they have it and check it over and the cost will probably be the same if not less than what some smiths charge.
The 5906 is built like a tank and worth the effort to get it running right. Good luck with it.
