I have not had it to the range yet imfortunately. However, I cant put the darn thing down. I literally spent all last night playing with the different grip combinations just to see how they felt. I have setteled on the small back strap, large right panel, ( I am right handed) and the small left panel, but will have to see how it shoots before I keep it.

In comparison to a G19, the HK VP9 is very similar in size. Differences in length and width are measured in thousandths of an inch, and IMO are irrelevant at best. Empty weight is a difference of less than two ounces, so again IMO it is irrelevant. Obviously it is more appealing to the eye than a glock but overall they share the same dimensions. Where the VP9 differs from the glock is in the ergonomics. The VP9 is cut deeper so the shooting hands rides higher on the grip, whick puts the shooting hand more in line with the bore axis. I cant actually speak to the overall shooting performance as I have not been to the range but have made direct comparisons with both guns in hand. The customizable grip panels I thought to be a gimmick at first but they really make an incredible difference of overall feel in the gun when compared to the block like feel common to glock firearms. Overall, as long as it performs to the standards HK is known for, I think it would be a very strong competitor in the defensive handgun market, especially to the guys and gals who dont like glocks due to the lack of ergos.

I also discovered an easter egg...... The overall shape of the VP9 is so similar to that of the CZ-P07 duty, that the VP9 fits almost perfectly in all of my P-07 Duty holsters. I have been wearing it around the house in my SHTF Gear P-07 holster all night and it works perfectly.

I could go broke if I bought every must have gun of the month. Hey, I almost do buy every new cool gun that comes out. :) I bought 5 in the last two months alone and up past 60 for the last 4.4 years. I am passing on this one as it was purpose designed for LEO use and I already have more HD guns than I need. I ran out of rooms to stash them years ago. The trigger is very nice and light for a striker fired gun but in the end, it is still a striker fired fantastic plastic gun that reminds me of the plastic guns I played with in my youth. I am into heavy metal or rather lightweight aluminum in my old age. :)

If I were to need a 9mm polymer striker fired gun for home defense, this would be my first choice. However I pretty much only buy carry guns. Yes it can be carried but after the first few times, I would go back to my smaller and lighter guns, as will most people. I like HK guns. Just traded off three of them for two 1911's. I am hoping that HK comes out with a compact version of this gun and then stand back and watch everyone trying to sell their VP9 full size, to buy the compact. Much like what happened with the introduction of the Glock 17 and then the 19.
