I just got the EMP about a week back and to my surprise it's not as small as I had thought. My slim hawg is actually smaller! I thought others would like to see the comparison. The slim hawg is .45 and only holds 3 less rounds than the EMP. The EMP is still awesome though.
Wow, I'm sort of surprised it doesn't compare more favorably size-wise. For what SA wants for the li'l guy they seem to have missed the mark a bit. I'd be curious how the EMP compares to Para's slim 9mm , both in size and price - can't recall the model name on the 9.

I too am surprised at the size difference. All the buzz behind the EMP made it seem smaller than it actually was. No doubt, both guns are excellent choices.
I believe the slim Para 9 Maclean3 called attention to is Para's LDA 9 Carry model. It is double action unlike the EMP and Slim Hawg which are single.
Maybe Para will someday release a Slim Hawg in 9mm. It never hurts to dream...
If it weren't for all the "bling" I could really go for that one. I'm not crazy about two toned guns to begin with but I hate contrasting appointments: SS slide stop, mag release, pins, etc. on a blued gun.

I was really fired up about the EMP, until I went to my local shop and held one. I loved the feel, but as others are saying, it's really not that much smaller.
I'd have been a lot more excited if they had chopped the grip a little shorter and made it 7+1 instead of 9+1. As it is currently, it doesn't seem any more concealable than any chopped .45.
Guys the 1911 platform only lends its self to downsizing so much , then it easily can become unreliable . Both guns are on the edge , and note they are basicly same size lol . IMHO when you go smaller than this you have to get into both some specific modifications that dont work with mass production , and into a specialised user group to take the time to learn and adapt to the pistols needed manual of arms , Kahr , Kimber , and some others are finding this out the hard way , you can market a cutting edge small pistol , but that does not mean every tom dick and harry can get along with it without specific instruction/training for the smaller formfactor . This is not a slam on pistol users , nor any compact pistol , just an observation of my experiance .
I know price is a concern, and I agree $900+ is expensive for a 9mm.
I friggin' love my EMP, next to no recoil and very accurate at 15 yards. They are great guns.
