Well, since you hit it on the head, I will confess. Those are the two I am looking at. The Trojan has adjustable sights unless you special order it, which I would probably do. The Lawman I would have to order with a custom finish since that model normally comes with a green receiver. Unless you're in the military, it might was well be blue to match my bluejeans. The guy that builds Big Bore 1911 said the only thing he would recommend changing out in either of those models is the trigger. STI uses a composite material instead of aluminum.

Evidenced by the folks at my IDPA club, the quality control on STI's can be pretty erratic, so be careful. Especially in their single stack frames.

Yup, that's the two I am looking at, QKShooter. Probably looking closest at the Trojan with fixed sights. Would definitely change out the trigger fairly quickly. I haven't settled on the STI yet, but it is the closest one that matches all of my requirements so far.

Anyone had any experience with the Rock River 1911's?

Bumper, have you not read what I have?

My total custom 1911 (which is custom right down to the RR BOBFORD1 serial number is a Rock River.

Chuck does a great job with these guns. Im very impressed with mine. It's more like a bullet launching precision machine, than, "just another gun" lol.

Mine is very custom however. I will attach a couple of pics. Both with the hard chrome finish before I blew the damn thing up with a double charge of Hogdon's, and the remake of it with a new top end and new "Body Coat" finish.

Bumper, I got to test drive a Springfield Armory TRP and that is one sweet 1911, and it sells for a tad over $1250. Already comes with Ambi tac safety, Novak night sights, checkered front strap, Natl Match Bbl, Blended Mag Well, skeletonized Cmdr Hammer, and Videcki style trigger to name a few of its standard features. I am not sure if the MSH is plastic or steel. I did not have a small magnet. I was trying to see if the magwell was integrated into the MSH but it was hard to tell.

Sorry, Bob, I knew someone here had one I just couldn't remember who. That is a damned nice looking gun and the serial number is a nice touch. Pricewise where does Rock River fall?

They are a bit over your price ceiling.
Mine was originally built by a custom smith in Arkansas by the name of Ross Carter, for about $2850. After I blew it up Rock River rebuilt it with a new top end for $750.

I still think that if you can swing it, the Thunder Ranch Special is dollar for dollar the best 1911 being built right now. The gun is so tight when it first arrives that it feels like the slide is welded to the frame, just pulling it open is strenuous, but from the first shot through about 1500 rounds now it never has failed to go bang, not once has it malfunctioned in anyway.

Here are the links to Rock Rivers 2 carry guns

I put the Thunder Ranch Special on my short "possibles" list despite what I said about price. I may just hang on a bit longer and let my slush fund grow a bit. See, I'm doing it already. I do this on just about everything I buy.... :squareeye
