Sweaty BUG

I am looking at the Kel-Tec P3AT or similar in size. Where I live it gets hot and very humid in the summer, and it's only a 1/2 a mile from ocean to sound. I usually wear shorts and a t-shirt. I need a BUG-type pistol that would stand up to theses conditions with minumum rust. Please bear in mind that size, weight, and the price are big factors, and are what draws me to the P3AT.

Got any opinions.

Get the P3AT in Hard Chrome and you should be good. I have the blued version, and the finish isn't too great. I wouldn't want to spend much time in the ocean air with it. Although, I did have it on a recent trip to Atlantic Beach/Ft. Macon and it ended up fine.

Stainless steel and aluminum?

Previous posters have criticized the Keltec from a rust standpoint, so maybe you should consider something in stainless steel and aluminum. How about a S&W model 642 .38+P revolver? It weighs 15 ounces empty and will fit in a pocket. Mine has never rusted.

I Don't Carry It A Lot Now...

but I have had my P-3AT for almost 4 years...in Florida...never a problem...not a 'range' gun, but a great little weapon!

Dammit pogo! Will you stop showing me that wheelie porn! My wife is about ready to divorce me anyway because of all the ugly Glocks I have OR am gonna have - I don't need to be tempted by a PURDY gun now!

Damn! That 642 is so sexy!

OK, I've got one to show off too...a S&W Model 36 (.38 Special +P) in nickel with rosewood grips...I think that would work in your family, Glock 'em down...:image035:

Funny? The finish on my P~3AT slide really wore off fast.
Doesn't bother me but, I "Cold Blued" mine and put a coat of Carnuba wax on it.

I honestly don't mind "finish wear" on any carry firearm I own but, I don't like rust.

For many years I have carried a blued S&W J frame stuck in the front of my pants, secured by a barami hip grip. It was against my bare skin and believe me, you will sweat in Georgia, but I have never had rust on any gun. A quick wipe with an oily rag when you take it off at night apparently works great because that is all I have ever done.
