FEG PA-63 Semi auto handgun, 9x18

has anyone had experience with the FEG PA-63 Semi auto handgun, 9x18? A friend of mine at work is looking to buy a pistol...on a budget. He's looking at this one plus a CZ-52 in 7.62 x 25.

Thoughts and opinions regarding these two pistols?

    Mike

The FEG PA-63 I owned was a good pistol for the money but it had a very heavy/gritty trigger. If your friend can find a Bersa Thunder 380 or Makarov pistol I am sure he/she will be better served. Regards, Richard

I have one that I carry when I go walking in the park. It's a nice little handgun and one of the most accurate that I've ever shot. The recoil is a little brutal (definitely worse than most 9mm's I've shot). The Double Action trigger is awful (has to be like 20lbs of pull for the first half and then 3 for the 2nd half). The single action is awesome. It's easy to take down and clean. 9x18 ammo is cheap. I'd tell him it's a great way to get started.

The PA63 is a good way to get into a economical handgun. They work pretty well, and yes, both trigger, and recoil are a bit much in the 9x18. Pretty good cheapo carry gun IMHO..When we get em in the Store, people snapp em up real quick, so that's telling me something about the guns

I had one but didn't like the way it would fillet the top of my hand when the slide cycled. If you've got larger hands, it's something to consider. I also couldn't get hollowpoints to fit in the magazine. The only HPs I could find were too wide at the tip of the bullet and would jam up in the tube. You could probably find another HP with a different bullet profile that would work though.

I've got one. It's very accurate...but that double action trigger pull is HEAVY. NO worries...I train to cock the hammer when I draw. Oh...the serrations on the trigger can get uncomfortable, too.

One thing to recommend 9x18Mak over a Tokarev is availability of ammuntion. Hornady and others make JHPs. All of the Tokarev ammo I've seen has been FMJ. OTOH, the Tokarev round tends to be a barn burner, where the Mak is a little slow for weight (around 1000 fps). It is like most hangun rounds...shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. It's not a big penetrator.

The PA-63 is thin and KISS simple, but the grip is a little long for pocket carry.

All things considered, I like...especially for the price. A Polish P-64 might be a good choice, too...

Yep...I'm thinking of a P-64 instead of a P3AT or Thunder380. Since I already have a Mak, it'd be nice NOT to have .380ACP laying around...

I have one that I have yet to fire.....its DA trigger pull is so bloody heavy that I can only get one pull of the trigger in that mode before my trigger finger is tired and sore.
