    Armalite pistols

I was at the gun store today and held a nice CZ clone. The gun was an Armalite AR-24 and it felt better than any handgun I've held. It had a tight barrel and action mateup as well as slide to frame. The price was $479. I almost bought it on the spot. The only draw backs were that it is made in Turkey and I know nothing of Armalite's pistols. I went there to buy a EAA witness but found they were out of stock. I am quite familiar with CZ clones, I just never seen the AR before and for $479 I felt I should do a little research before putting down the wad of cash. So this is my question: Does anyone have any information on this pistol or will I have to learn about it the old fashioned way i.e. empty the bank account?

Just because they are made in Turkey (at the company Sarsilmaz specifically) shouldn't dissuade you. Sarsilmaz has been making guns for a while. Right outside the main gate of Incirlik AB, Turkey is a gunstore (selling only long arms and airguns) that sold Sarsilmaz-made shotguns...excellent quality.

Having handled the AR-24's in SHOT Show, I thought the quality, fit and finish was better than the various EAA Witnesses I've either owned (owned two...still own one) and/or handled. The only the clones my by Sphinx are nicer than these Turkish made guns....granted, I haven't fired an AR-24, so they might be problematic pistols, but they look and feel solid.

That said, for the price you pay, I'd rather get a real CZ-75/85 and not a clone...but for a clone, it looks nice.

Another thing...a Turkish-made gun isn't an indicator that it's bad gun, thus a "drawback"....the Stoeger Cougars are made in Turkey and they are as good as the Italian-made (Beretta) Cougars.

Armalite is having these pistols made to their design and quality
specs. , but basically it's a Turkish clone as you said.

I bet no one at Armalite sees these besides the stock boy.

Early reviews on the gunboards have been ok.

For almost $500 , I would rather have a Nickel CZ.......

    But thats just me.............

"Clone" doesn't necessarily mean the same. Caution on any v1.0 anything, CZ clones included. As they don't have a track record, they could end up being truly fine, or duds. Hard to say at this point.

For me, I'd rather have a real CZ. It's a known quantity with a long record of reliability, operation.

I do like the raised slide in the rear, I suspect these guns will get a good review.

I agree with SRFL and CCW9mm. Get the real thing. My favorite carry is a CZ 40P.

I thought my fellow gun lovers would be a little more curious instead of just pawning me off on some other mfg. Oh well, I did some of my own research and actually learned a lot about the AR-24(already knew a lot about the CZ). Thanks anyway.
