    New snubby

So I had a birthday this week and worked a few extra shifts and got good news about my after college job, so I decided to go buy myself a new firearm as a gift to myself for being so awesome.

So I got the snubby that I have been meaning to for a while, a S&W 638, with the lock since it is a new one (I can deal with it). No, I don't have pics, but maybe I can get some this weekend. I also bought a cheap Uncle Mikes pocket holster to go with it, and it works just fine in front or back pockets of my carpenter jeans.

Now if the weather ever gets back to normal for this time of year I have something for when I don't feel like carrying a full size 1911. Now just gotta work a bunch of extra shifts to get some CT grips for it.

    Congrats,

I'm glad to see that other people still love snubbies too.

Cool! I keep meaning to buy an airweight too, but I never have got around to it.

I am wondering why you chose the 638 over the more popular 642.
I dont know much about revolvers at all, so I dont know what the difference really other than the 638 looks like Lurch.

The 638 is DA/SA whereas the 642 is DAO

I chose the 638 because I do like having the ability to use single action if I want to. As far as concealability its only a hair bigger than the 642 on the backside, so thats not really a problem in the pocket. The first revolver I owned was a 1851 navy cap and ball in .44, the second an Ubetri Cattleman in .45LC, I am very comfortable with single action.

And like to have the ability just in cas I ever do need it (I know its mostly a belly gun and gonna be used inside 7 yards, but just in case).

Its actually my second snubby, I have a Rossi 461 too, but thats roughly the size of a K frame, and kinda big for pocket carry in anything besides my Carhartt.

And before anyone asks, I did find a good deal on it for $359 NIB, which is about the lowest I see on Gunsamerica, with many going for over 450.

I also bought a box of 125 gr Winchester Silvertips +P, which after I break it in with some of the .38 FMJ I have lying around here, should be a pretty good load for it I think. If anyone disagrees with that, let me know why.

I'm planning on buying the exact same gun soon. If you don't mind me asking where did you get it at, and do they have any more, I'm an hour away from the Columbus area.

Schwebel, $359 is what I paid, and I got it at Vances Shooting Supplies, although Buckeye Outdoors has the same sales flyer.

They have some pretty good deals there usually, take a look, its worth a little bit of a drive too if its within an hour or so.

I was going to ask you if you ever go there... I guess you do. I just spoke with Ryan from LE sales this week. He seemed like a decent guy to deal with.

You are welcome for the link Schwebel, just know that if you go to Vance's it isn't in the best neighborhood (and Hi-points are their best selling firearms, although they have a whole lot of good quality weapons too.)

Yeah Sixto, since I found out about them a couple years ago I have bought every firearm except one from them, they have some of the best staff of any gun store I have found, very friendly and helpful.

Upon looking around the sight apparently Speer 135 grs are the round for snubbies, maybe I'll look into them sometime, I wouldn't want to get hit with a 125 gr +p Hp round though, so I'm ok with them for now.
