    Smith and Wesson 1911's

Who has them and what do you think of them? People on the S&W forum love them, but that is what I would expect. I keep bugging the guys at Sportsmans Warehouse, because I keep going by to hold one. :-)

I like S&W 1911's but I had rather have one done up myself and get a all business gun. I just got this Springfield back from the gun smith.

It started out as a loaded model and had the following added:
    Kings Mag Well
10-8 tritium rear opened to .145
Trijicon whiter ring/tritium front sight .125 wide
Wilson Combat bullet proof extractor, thumb safety, grip safety, mag release, slide lock
    VZ Grips
    Standard length guide rod
Extra long aluminum trigger that breaks at 4.0 lbs
    Reliability job
    and a new finish.

I had a bad exp with my 1911sc and smiths service for it sucked guess they still didnt figure out the 1911 mine became dangerous to shoot

The rails had shreaded them selfs down to less than half size and the disconnector had wore a channel down into the slide..

So for my taste ill pass

    My Opp.

    Hi,
I have owned a S&W black SC for about 3 years now. No problems after normal very short break-in. I love mine but I may be an exception. I have read good and bad but for me they are hard to beat out of the box. Colt Officer and S&W 1911 are my daily carry pieces. IMHO S&W make a very fine gun for under $1000.

S&W makes some of the best 1911's out there. I would take a 1911PD over anything in a lightweight commander. Same for a stainless 5".

I own a S&W 1911PD and love it. I've had no problems with it and tons of fun.

I just picked up a SW1911 Stainless. So far, so good. Now I have to find a decent holster for it that won't take 50 years to make and deliver.

What do people think about having a tactical rail on a 1911? They have one that has the rail that looks real nice! (Is it hard to find holsters for guns with rails?)

I like my 1911 PD. I had the extractor tuned due to straight back ejection. It did not totally eliminate the problem but it reduced it a lot. I am still partial to the Glock 19 for regular carry but I do like the 1911. I am considering a LDA para.

Let me echo the positives these guns. I have a 1911PD. It has run flawlessly right out of the box. Very accurate, nice feel and lightweight to boot. I don't think you can go wrong with one. I also have a fairly new Gold Cup Trophy. Not quite as snappy as the PD, but not as carry-able either.

I have a plain-Jane S&W 1911 SS and love it. My favorite CCW gun and I shoot it better than any other gun I own. I've put probably 4K thru it, including 3 defensive handgun classes.

This is killing me deciding between SA and S&W. Is there anything that would tip the scales if it was your money? :-)

I've had a SW1911 for acouple of months now.It has the standard GI recoil system(which I insist on.I'm old fashioned)and no forward cocking serrations.I have slightly over 1500 rounds thru it .It is a shooting machine. There have been numerous complaints about the barrel crowns on the Smiths, and honestly mine could be better in that regard, but accuracy is not affected,so I don't want to go to the trouble of sending it back.
It is now a carry piece and has been 100% reliable with hollow points.( Rangers).
