Thanks for the info, sounds like for the most part everything was pretty minor, and nothing out of the ordinary (ok, other then the mag relase issue).
I know a lot of depts are looking at them due to the ease of "fitting" the gun to an officers hand (though we all know even with the 3 different size backstraps it won't fit every officer) and being able to standardize the duty gun dept wide.
One last question, which caliber did they test and decide on?

Why not? I bet an M&P cooked medium-well with some A1 would taste mighty fine!

M&P 9 & 9c
Have both the full size and compact 9mm
Full size 1200 rounds so far
compact 200 rounds
Have had no malfunctions with either. The trigger smoothed out alot on my full size after about the 500 round mark. the trigger on my compact is still kinda "gritty" feeling but I'm sure that it will smooth out after it eats a bit more ammo. Added a Warren Tac. rear sight on my full size. As far as CC the M&P compact is slim, light, accurate as hell, carries 13 rounds on board(unless you live in one of those "pinko" states, is made in the USA, and conceals very well.
As far as aftermarket support there is some out there and surely more coming.

I too like the M&P an awful lot and I am wanting one, but I want to wait until they get on the street and some "real life" scenarios occur. However...if I do finally decide on one, I'm not sure it will ever hit the streets with me. I've carried a Glock on and off duty for approx. 16-17 years now! I'll prolly retire with a Glock in my dusty ol' duty holster.
If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

I'm a Glock and Sig kinda guy, but I will admit the M&P is growing on me. I dont care for some of the things other guys really like, such as the palm swell thing.
S&W has left me with a less than favorable impression the last 10 years or so because of some of the stuff they put out to compete with Glock and Sig. I was almost embarassed for them.
I just wish they would get the support right. They needed start forming relantionships with the bigger holster makers, and make parts, mags, sights, as easy to deal with like Glock.
