Dear Folks:
I am exploring the purchase of a Walther P99C as I have heard that this is a wonderful CCW gun in 9mm. (I will be shooting one at the range soon). I have also heard that S&W makes a similar gun in cooperation with Walther. Are they the same guns in terms of quality and reliability? What are the major differences?

There was some very minor differences, but I dont remember off hand what they were. I do know that the Walthers hold their value slightly better.
I have the SW99 compact and have been well pleased with it. Not sure if the differences are other than miniscule altho I believe the latest versions have a better mag release.
It is only the ergonomics that made this gun a bit harder to get used to - tho once familiar no problem. I keep mine for carry when occasionally for one reason or another my SIG is not right for the day. I do favor the mag's with pinkie extension even tho they add a bit to profile.

Oh yeah, one is stamped Walther and the other is stamped S&W.:wink:
I have a Walther P99c AS....love it....great gun.
Walther = German-made gun in its entirety; Tennifer-treated slide.
S&W = German-made frame; S&W-made and Melonite-treated slide with some other cosmetic differences.
The last smith I saw had walther stamped on it also. The only other thing i know is early models didn't have the de-cocker on the slide.

Is that an H&K type magazine release that I see? Ambidexterous, and push down to have a forceful ejection of the mag?
It does have an HK style mag release.
Not so sure I'd say ''forceful'' but the initial release is very positive and does give some assist. Certainly less passive than some releases shall we say.Quote:

Pretty much the same gun, the SW99 has "Smith & Wesson" stamped on the slide.
For what it's worth, my SW99 has never let me down, and is my carry piece.
