Detonics CombatMaster: I'm a firm believer! (photos)

I took possession of my CombatMaster Mk VI yesterday. It's an early manufactured Gun in pristine factory original configuration.

I took her home, disassembled it for proper check-over. Cleaned the Barrel, applied a little oil and lubed the Gun properly.

Took her out to the indoor range and loaded the Mags with 200Gr wadcutters. The Target was placed at CQB distance, about 20 feet. The CM was slow fired while rested. Had a bunch of hole in one hits. All were within 2". Free hand shooting opened-up the spread a little. It's to be expected, I guess.

Rested at 25 yards, all hits were within a 4" spread.

Recoil was extremely manageable. The 3-spring recoil system developed by Detonics really, really does it job! It's function throughout the session was flawless.

Accuracy, I think, is phenomenal for a 26 year old gun with a 3.5" barrel.

I'll post a few photos of the CombatMaster this evening.

Great firearm. More folks should buy one. Near ideal small package - large bore carry firearm. Utterly reliable and built like a fortress.

    Directly on-point!

The CombatMaster is built in 100% Stainless Steel,... including all internal components down to the three recoils springs. I think the sights are the only non SS parts on the weapon.

Just read a review of the new Detonics CombatMaster and I found out that they have a staff that is dedicated to the rehab of old ones, so if you have any issues with it, it was good to read that they have folks ready to help.

    Copy That!

Peter Dunn has been there from the get-go. Peter's extensive expertise along with his input and history at Detonics is one of the main reasons the Company will prevail. The guy is a wizard at tweeking and repairing 1911s.

Along with my CombatMaster came a document signed by Peter Dunn. It's dated in 1981.

    Thanks Herknav.

I placed an order for an IWB and OWB (custon design) with UBG. Probably go with a Max-Con V also.

Gee guys......you're making me feel right at home with this.. I've been a Detonics Combat master owner for a LONG time.........since early1980s when I bought my first MK VI........They shoot really well...........I think I posted an earlier pic of the one that came full circle, after my selling it, and then finding it again........at my Part Time job at KTP about 25 yrs later.. fact is.....i found another one.........(one ofr the 1st 1k off the line.........a Mk I .. and that's resting beside the other one as well...
It's STILL one of the SMALLEST 45s made today.. and very managable and conceilable for it's size! Built like a tank too!! and it CAN take a pounding of hot loads..Gold Dots work VERY WELL in mine..(Bought the one pictured for about 350.00 at the Store with what you see in the pic

    Nice gun!

That is an unusual little .45 - I have never seen one. It appears that the magazine is one round shorter than an officers' length magazine - is that correct?

The rear sight is about an inch forward of the end of the slide, which is unusual. I also notice the absence of a beavertail, and wondered if the hammer ever bites the shooting hand?

It looks highly concealable, and I wonder if an officers' size holster would fit it?

It was a design change by Mr. Dunn (if memory serves) because he didn't really like carrying C&L. He wanted to be able to efficiently cock the hammer as it was being drawn. So he knocked out the rear sight, milled the slide down and replaced the sights where you see them. This is a Detonics trademark of sorts. When you see a slide like that, it is either a Detonics or a blatant copy.

I saw Shooting Gallery recently where they showcased the Detonics line and it has me really interested in picking up one of those little buggers.

    I blame Michael Bane.
