Kahr KP45 or Compact XD .45?
So I went to the gunshop today with the intent of making my final decision on what XD I wanted (stainless or black). I had pretty much figured out that I wanted the compact 45acp.
The sales rep and I talked and the more I talked about .45's and concealability the more he started to look down to the other end of the case. He finally suggested that I check out the Kahr TP45.
I liked it a lot. Felt good in my hand and is very narrow. Very concealable. Should be a nice for IWB carry.
I am carrying a S&W642 now and the XD would be quite a step up as far as weight.
Reading another thread, I am assuming that I will not have a problem finding a good custom holster for it.
The price was 619.00. A bit more that the XD and I don't mind, but I would like to know where the money is going.
Ok, educate me. Who owns one?

I don't own a Kahr KP45, but have handled them. I do own a PM9. I've never handled S-A's XD's, but unless they came out with a new sub compact .45, it's nowhere near as small & light as the Kahr, right?
Another gun you "might" want to look at is Taurus's Mil Pro PT145. It's heavier & a little larger than the Kahr .45, but it holds 10+1 with a lighter trigger. It's basically like carrying a slightly shorter Glock 26, but a .45.
Anyways, nothing's wrong with either gun, but there's quite a difference in size & weight between the Kahr KP45 & SA XD45c, I think.
Good luck.

Another option is the Kahr TP45. The barrel will be a little longer and give more muzzle control and recoil compensation. I own the Kahr TP9 and find it easier to conceal due to it being slimmer than my Glock 19 which is the same approx width as the XD.
However, both of the weapons you mentioned are fine weapons and will serve you wonderfully.

What a heckuva a choice to make!
Great guns.
Can you get both?

HA HA Yea, if I can come and live with you.
I see that some like the XD over the TP45 hands down. OK why?
I agree that the XD is a fine weapon and I will own one. However, my main concern is to upgrade from the .38 that I carry now. My choice needs to be reliable, easily concealable and of course the rounds have to hit the paper where I tell them to.
I was sold on the XD until I saw how thin the TP45 was.
Thanks for posting your experience Artz. It's nice to see that it is performing well for you. Just makes me want one more.

Well it seems XDs have a more sterling reputation for reliabilty than the Kahrs do. But there aren't many guns that can compare with Kahrs thinness.
Yeah I like Glocks, wanna fight about it!

I have a Kahr PM9 and a P45 on "Lay-Away".
If the reliability of the P45 is the same as the PM9 then the P45 is a Keeper! I love my PM9 and think Kahr has the finest trigger out there for a DAO Autoloader. It's also very light, easy to conceal and handles well. OK, I "played" with the P45 before putting any money down on it.

that was HIS retail price. The retail price at the store where I picked mine up was $599.
He lowered it to $560. If I'm not mistaken, I saw them on GunsAmerica for $540.
Hopefully theres the ammo for your purchase. If he won't move on that price, just ask him..."Would you rather lose a customer or sell a gun ?" Good luck !

Kahr P45
A friend of mine who owns lots of guns has a Kahr P45, thinks very highly of it, and carries it. The P45 is not quite as long in slide and grip as the TP45 you are looking at, but it is a very similar gun. He especially likes the thin profile of the gun for IWB carry, as well as the trigger feel.
I would say that if absolute concealment is important in your situation, the Kahr will be a better choice than the XD45 compact, which is noticeably wider than the Kahr.

I can't say enough good things about my new XD-45C at the moment.

Here's my recent range report on it. I don't know where you are in Kentucky, but if you're somewhat near Lexington, we can arrange for you to shoot my XD45 at Bud's or something.

Thanks for the offer. I might have to take you up on that. I am currently calling around town to see what is available for rental.
Still looking for fundage so I have plenty of time.

I love my XD 45 compact. 100% reliable, dead on accurate, and choice between compact 11 round carry or 14 round carry when clothing/environment allows. Yes it is thicker than the Kahr, but is still easily concealed and has higher capacity and did I mention completely reliable?
