    Value of a Colt Python

Saw a .357 Colt Python is a pawn shop today. It had what looked like a 6" custom barrel which said "Clark Custom" on the side. It was rounded on top and the underlug was squared off.

It was a very nice blued gun, some wear in the cylinder but no other large scratches or blemishes that I could see.

    They were asking $950.

$950 in my opinion is very steep for a modified Python.Someone probably had it built for some type of special target shooting. An original unmodified Python in Very good condition would bring 1K or better on todays market.

Perhaps a little high for modified gun

I would agree that $950 for a modified Python is a little high. If the gun had all original parts and was in excellent condition, that price would be fair.

As a data point, here is a Python I bought for $630 in 1999. I figure it might be pushing $1000 in value today, the way Colt Pythons have appreciated lately.

    tanksoldier...

I recommend asking your question here:

It is true that modified firearms generally do not command collectible prices as high as unmodified models. Colt prices, however, have been going through the roof lately, so it is hard to tell.

    Good luck!

That's too much for an altered Python.
