The CombatMaster was designed, engineered and developed for deep concealment. It was the first mass produced Compact 1911.

Many innovative pioneering features were incorporated into the weapon.

The CombatMaster was the first mass produced 1911 to incorporate:

    - a Slide mating coned Bull Barrel (no bushing) which made it extremely accurate.
    - a Shortened Grip ~ shorter than the Officer's Model and most compact 1911s.
    - a 3-dot sight system.
    - a Self contained double (now three) recoil spring assembly.
    - a Pinned grip panel (no grip safety with protruding beavertail.
    - a Bobbed hammer.
    - a Bevelled Magazine Well
    - a Lowered and Scalloped Ejection Port
    - a Polished Throat and Ramped Barrel to feed HPs

    Correct OD.

It also made it possible to quickly cock the hammer by sliding the weapon down the thigh, if necessary.

Also, by designing the CombatMaster with the rear sight placed forward (closer to the belt line when holstered), the Slide was able to be milled down, recessed and angled at the rear, which when combined by it's shortened Grip, it made the CombatMaster much less bulkier than any other 1911 and thus the easiest 1911 to conceal.

On the sight , At the time there was a claim that there was an abc type agency which carried hammer down ( supposedly in order not to catch flack from the .mil who they worked with closely and sometimes in uniform ) who wanted the option of having a round chambered , they did the " helecoptor pad " on the back for easy thumb cocking . Remember this was back in the 70s thro early 80s . I dont know myself , i do have an early CM that came with the arched MS housing , and short trigger , but did not have the cut down commander hammer of the first run . its flat ms and long trigger now , and my wife's everyday carry gun . Oh and i drug out the rug and manual , the recept was in it , i paid $642.00 for it , a little less than i could have gotten a genuine NM colt ( pre gold cup ) for at the time
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

I've got to say that ones a keeper. Nice, I used to read all the stories about this pistol in a series of paperbacks. Come to find out that the the author ended up buying the company after it closed the first time around.

Yes, that is correct, I sent an email to Detonics a few weeks ago, and it was answered by Jerry Ahern, President of Detonics. He was with Petersen's Handguns, previously.
