Thinking of picking up another full size 1911

I just recently got a job that will allow me to purchase some of the cool toys I've been wanting. Last December I was forced to sell both of my Springfield 1911 GI 45s, due to financial struggles. They were good guns, but I didn't care for the sights, or the standard ejection port, because the spent shells would hit me in the face. I was looking at getting either the Mil-Spec or save up another couple hundred dollars, and get the Loaded model. Both of them have the features I want most on a 1911, which are taller sights, and a lowered ejection port. I was also looking at Kimber, but I heard some of them have quality control issues, and I was also looking at the Taurus PT1911, as it has all the bells and whistles of a custom 1911, but for half the cost. I guess my question is, what's the better value?

I like the Taurus ( have 2 of them ) also have many other 1911's from a Ed Brown down to RIA with Springers, Kimbers and a couple of Colt's thrown in. The Taurus is a great shooter and will regularly turn in good groups the finish is weak but that doesnt bother me if it gets real bad I'll have it redone but for the money their hard to beat.

So long as this is 1911 anonymous,...

Hi, my name is Jason, and I am an adict. I have two Springers right now, and have been looking at the Taurus 1911 with quite a bit of interest. I must have a Kimber Ultra Raptor at some point in time, and I have about 4 more Springers circled in one of my catalogs.

Not to mention that the Wilson Combat Sentinel is another that I have been pining over for some time now.

Drop for the taurus and get the trigger worked. Nice shooters and all the bling of the SA loaded for half the money. Both need trigger work. You do the math.

I just got a nice check from the treasury department too. I immediately had visions of guns/accessories. My financial adviser (wife) tells me that it was a mistake and we have to send it back. Doesn't seem right.

I went to the IDPA match this past weekend (shot like crap) and a couple of the guys were using Taurus 1911s. They seemed to shoot very well and both of the guys really liked them. Something else to add to the list.

    Oh, yeah, that's really showing restraint . . .

I'm with Bud. You need a lot of 1911s. The next one in my sights is reall WWI or WWII vintage model. Ever watchful. Readiness is all.

Actually, that is due to a poorly tuned extractor and not the ejection port. The Taurus 1911s have been getting some very good reviews.

Thanks for the replies. The Taurus 1911 does look like a good value. Do other 1911 mags work in the Taurus, like the McCormick mags?

Pretty much all 1911 mags should work in any spec 1911. Unfortunately, this isnt always the case. Some guns just prefer some mags. This said, I've seen CMC and WC mags run through the PT1911 without incident. Find one brand that your gun likes and stick with that brand.
