    What price to sell my S & W 342PD ??

    Dear Folks:

I plan on selling my S & W 342PD (shoots 38+p, slightly used gun). I need advice regarding what would be a fair price to sell it for?

    Thanks to all who respond.

Sixto will buy it for 50 bucks!

No really, I would check the local shops in your area and check Gunbroker.com. You might also check the bargain mart in your area if there is one. Gather up all the different pricing info and then base your price accordingly. Be sure to take into account that it is used and also decide how fast you are wanting to get rid of it. Take it to your next gunshow and put a "for sale" sign around your neck. I have done this before and it does work.

I think a good Smith 342 with box and papers.............would sell for about 390.00 on the retail.......private sale is the best way to go of course. .. A trade would be around 275.00 to 295.00 ...might be higher or lower on the prices mentioned depending upon your region.

You got a pic? I can't remember what the 342PD looks like. Is it the Airweight? Scandium?

How much did you pay for it? I've seen them brand new for around $550

Sold! Where do I pick it up?

It depends how fast you want to move it. Generally 15-20% below the average new price in you area will sell it quick, and you wont take a beating on it. ( Dont forget to add tax to the new price)

Damn, I just bought a 442. If in great shape I would have given you $400. They are hard to come by. I have seen them go for $500 +.

A good S&W 300/400/600 series snubbie revolver seems to sell in the range of $275-425 used, depending on the new price, the used condition and materials it's made of (ie, the scandium and titanium versions are a tad more).

Data point: A 442 Airweight 38spl I purchased 13yrs ago for ~$400 sold fairly quickly last summer for $295. There were about 500 rds fired on it, and it had been carried daily. The trigger was just breaking in, and everything worked like new. Of course, the bluing was down ~20% in many places, as well as along all edges. I figured it could have sold for $325-350 or so, had the "looks" be up to par.

So I guess my NIB 442 for $315 was a good deal.

You'll have no problem selling that revolver for 275.-ish. But your ideal customer will be one who sees the significant difference between the 442 and 342pd. I know I'd rather give mine away than sell it for that price (especially after trading a 442 for the 342 that I now have)
