Colt Delta Elite Glock 29 or S&W 1066?

Most of you know how I operate.. wheelin and dealin for stuff I lust for <MMMMMMMM GUNSNNNS Homer Simson voice>
Now, I know where I can get my greedy little hands on a Colt Delta 10MM 98% finish, with tons of goodies, extra mag, and many extra parts <like the Lightweight Commander I bought a couple weeks ago>The delta is tagged for for 625.00. I also have a Glock 29 no frills gun, at the same dealer on hold, for 465.00. Also, there is a Smith 1066 with box, extra mag and such with night sights for 495.00 there as well. BTW.Smith only made 5000 model 1066's The trouble is, I can't take all three, soooooo I gotta decide. I've had a Delta when they first came out, and it shot well. I've held the Glock and it feels a bit strange to me. I've also fondled the Smith a couple of times whhile I was there, and it feels like a Smith LOL. I'm thinking on these terms in both a carry, shoot-em-up, and good price return on a trade someday gun. ALL 3 have the boxes extra mags etc. BTW the 1066 has been there for ages, and the Glock and Delta JUST came in.. Sooooooo what do you think?

If you have to have a 10mm, I'd stay with the Delta or Glock. Glocks are very depedable, dare I say more so than the Colt. But either will do you well. You may have to have some work on the Colt to make it 100% reliable. Never been a big fan of S&W autos they're too clunky. When it comes down to it, its what feels good to you. Good luck

Keep in mind that those steel framed 10mms have a bad tendency to crack, which is why the current loadings are reduced from the original ballistics. So if you are looking for return on investment, buy the Delta and shoot it very little, if you are more interested in a shooter go for the Glock.

I would lean toward the Delta Elite but, for the reasons that F350 just related would probably opt for the Glock. I have a S&W 5904, which is a good gun IMO but I just don't like S&W autos, SW1911 excepted.

First post here and i am from the 10mm forum.
Both my Son and I own Glock 29's and I also own a S&W 1066 so I will chime in here.
First stay FAR away from the Colt Delta Elite if you intend to run full power 10mm loads. They have a serious lack of case support and are dangerous with hot 10mm loads. If you want a 1911 format look at say the Kimber but stay far away from the Colt unless you want to spend the $ on converting to a ramped barrel.
The Glock is reliable and a good shooter and makes a great high power carry pistol.
However the S&W 1066 is the one I will recommend without reservation here. That price is a solid deal and shooting the S&W and Glock regularly back to back as I do there is no comparison. The S&W will shoot rings around the Glock and is much more comfortable to shoot with hot loads of the 2. As far as reliability is concerned between the S&W 1066 and Glock 29 both have never ever one single time failed to feed and i have run several thousand full power 10mm rounds through both.

That's a good, stout load for the 10mm as far as I can recall. That's a cartridge that could have had a "magnum" suffix attached to it.

Its probably the most versatile auto cartridge. I think its one you would enjoy playing with Bryan. A little Blue Dot, or 800x and a 180 weight bullet would be fun on those Texas whitetail

OP, I would love to have the DE, but for the versatility of switching to a 9x25 Dillon with just a barrel swap, my nod is to the Glock. The S&W would be good to, but I would be concerned about spare parts since they are no longer in production.

I know I would gman. I kinda like the .40 bore, both for handgun and rifle. My handguns are antique .40s, the .38-40 and the .41 Long Colt, both of which have .40 bores. Then there's a .405 Winchester rifle around here.

I'll be the OP found us on an internet search which led him to this antique thread from 2005. No matter. He got here as fast as he could.

What is a shocker is running hot 10 mm back to back in the Glock and the S&W. The difference in felt recoil is very noticeable and the S&W shoots so much smoother! I still carry my Glock more mostly because it's more common and my S&W is SO pristine and relatively rare.

I agree. Personally I believe Glock has a better platform for the 10mm cartridge than any other maker.

I would not go with the Delta for reasons already mentioned. I own a 1006, which I can and do carry IWB. It is probably one of my favorite pistols. I would not trade it even up for a Glock 10mm.

I know Colt started Making the Delta's again, if its a newer Delta would it still have this problem? I would be shocked that Colt wouldn't have addressed this!
