I just bought a XD9 this week and I'm wanting to put night sights on it. I'm leaning towards PT night sights (had this type before) and was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions. Any help would appreciated.
Big dot for now.. I'll see how I like them. I might get regular for my other 1911 and see which I like best.
All I know is that when I practice drawing I want that front sight to be the first thing my eye picks up and right now, it's just not happening. If I spend even a quarter of a second trying to find that front sight that's too long.
The only time I ever had a front sight hang up was in one of those holsters where the muzzle extends past the bottom of the holster and that was with a regular size front sight. I got rid of that holster real fast.
All of my other holsters provide plenty of room for the front sight and clothing shouldn't be an issue.
I'll probably post a "product report" once I have them on the gun and can try them a few times. I'll pay special attention to how it draws and sight acquisition.
I've got a set of Tru-glo TFO night sights sitting in the drawer waiting for the G19 to come home. Tritium for night shooting and fiber optics for daylight ... great combo for all around shooting.

I'm waiting on Pistol-Gear to re-stock the yellow/green TFOs for my XD. Once they are in, I'm ordering a set for my Service. I just finished putting Meprolights on my wife's MK9 earlier this week. The tritium's are a great site, but I want something a little different for my Service.
It is like Christmas to me :smiley2: . After getting injured on the job, I haven't been able to shoot for almost 2 yrs and during that time, I had to sell most of my guns just to stay above water. Now after the doc turned me loose, I'm able to start replacing them and get back to shooting again:banana: . Didn't realize just how much I missed shooting. I'm going for my CCW class this month, so I'm trying to get my equipment lined up for that. So, bear with me if I ask too many questions...lol I appreciate all the help and info I can get.
Everyone here seems very friendly and glad to help, I don't think you will have any troubles. Glad you are able to get back to shooting. I took my Texas CHL with a XD9 Service and my wife took hers with a XD9 SubCompact and everything went perfect. I was a little shaky due to normally shooting a 1911, but the gun shot everytime I pulled the trigger and hit right where I was aiming at, albeit sometimes I was aiming just a little southwest of center.
I got my TFOs from Gary Brommeland - yellow/green combos too :hand10:. Not sure what he has in stock but it could be worth contacting him, I know he can special order stuff from Tru-glo.

I had Springfield install the XS Big Dot Tritiums on my XD9sc and by far, I like the XS system over a 3 dot sight system. (Maybe if I had 2 contrasting colors on the 3 dots it wouldn't be as much of an issue but mine are all green and it takes time to line them up in low light)
I will add the XS Big Dots to my G-23 next! I am a true believer now in what I've been told that it is quicker for the eye to align a vertical sight system over a 3 dot horizontal system. After trying them, I believe it.
I was torn over the XS Big Dots and the TFO's. I was told by the dealer that with the TFO, the length of the fiber optic insert does shorten the amount of sight radius between front and rear sights.
With the subcompact XD I decided not to have any shorter of a sight radius than necessary. Whether that really made much of a difference I don't know but I am definitely happy I went with the XS Big Dots.
Another deciding factor for the Big Dot for me was that I am now 46 years old and wearing progressive lenses (Bi-focals) and I want that front sight out there, and visible as fast as possible!
No regrets on my decision!
One thing is for sure, I won't ever buy another gun without night sights if they are available! I have tritium iron sights on my AR, Glock, XD and a tritium bead on my shotgun. I do need to retrofit my two 1911's when I get some extra money.
I am lurking as I had almost decided on the tfo for my xd 45 compact but these sound good to I wish I could do a shoot off. any body have these in the VA tidewater area?
Maybe I'm alone here...I just put Trijicon's on my Glock-36 and they are a little brighter than the Meps on both of my Kimbers...and the Meps are good...
These old eyes pick up on the Trij's quickly...I really like 'em...the three even dots are not difficult to align...but then I'm used to them.
Let's be real for a moment, the night sights are not going to be much of an advantage in a dark parking lot at 3-7' anyway...but if moving around the house it could be a big help!
I change out to night sights to help me pick up the sights in a dim lit range also, maybe fiber optic would be cheaper and better for that, I've never tried them. But the tired old eyes need any help they can get.
I have shot some pistols with TFOs and they are fast sights to find day or night. The dot and vertical line also seem like they would be a good sight. However when I bought an XD9sc it came with Heinie straight eights. They have tritium inserts, and the back sight is wider than the front. The sights are slanted and cut with horizontal serration's to cut down glare in the light. Well imagine my surprise when I shot an IDPA match and these sights are very fast to pickup. In fact only after several stages did I realize I don't notice these sights, but I am shooting reasonably fast and accurate for an old guy wearing trifocals. I admit that TFOs may be faster in the day, but these Heinie's are tough, low profile and trouble free. Very bright at night. I have never shot at night.
I have been debating between the TFO's and the xs,leaning toward the xs,but now trying to decide bewteen the big dot and the little dot.Lima,I will be waiting to see how you like the big dot.I might also say that I am 64 and wear trifocals so it will probably be the big dot. Also I will ask where is the cheapest place to find them,BTW I carry a kimber ultra carry. sj
Just dropped my Beretta 96 off at the gunsmith for him to install the XS Big Dots. As soon as he finishes the 96, the XD is next.
