I've become a huge fan of Para Ordance. Really nicely built and uber reliable. I have put 500 rounds through my new gun (bought it 2 weeks ago) and have had nary a hiccup. It eats, shucks, and loads every cheap ammo I have run through it... best part is with the alloy frame, its 25 oz unloaded.
Oh. And it was only $700. I'd be careful not to spend too much on a carry gun, since its gonna take a beating.

S&W 625...simple, yet utterly reliable all the time.
I know, I know, you are smarter than me..just ask you..
mocarryguy, you make an excellent suggestion.
Which ever one fits your hand like it was made for you and puts the bullets where you want them to go. For me that meant a used Sig P-220. I traded a Colt Combat Commander for it. Was I comfortable carrying 1911s? Sure. I just like the feel of the Sig better.
Another vote for the H&K USP. Another plus is the mechanical recoil reduction system on the USP.

I started out with the 1911, so it's easy to understand that I like it the best. I have owned Colts, Para Ordnance, Springfields, Kimbers and even had a Auto Ordnance and a RIA. While most of them were pretty well made and reasonably accurate. I had problems that were very frustrating with some. I finally tried an upper end gun and realized what I had been missing all these years. I purchased a Wilson CQB in all black and finally realized what a first class gun was. It is extremely accurate, superbly reliable and well made. I liked it so much I sold all my other 1911's. I wanted another Wilson for concealed carry and did not want to carry the 5" 1911. In the past I had a couple of different Springfield Champions that I liked for carry. When Wilson came out with the stainless Professional, I picked one up and have never looked back. It has been on my hip since. It is everything the CQB is but in a more concealable package. I almost bought the CQB compact but I dont like the shorter grip. I have now put over 5000 rounds through my Professional and it has never let me down. Here it is when I first picked it up and also in the holster I carry it in IWB.

Wouldn't go with 1911 - is big and single stack - 7 rounds.
Would look at the compact XD - smaller profile and carries 10 in the mag - I think. Very tough, reliable gun and a better safety system than HK/SIG/Glock - IMHO. I also like the loaded chamber indicator - have had to use it in the dark a couple of times.
Accurate as any, reliable as any. You can spend more, but you won't get more.

I truly appreciate all your opinions, suggestions and the great pictures too. This has/is a very interesting string, at least to me. I’m set on 45 ACP. After all bigger is always better (it’s a guy thing). My very first hands gun was a S&W model 629 classic. Loved that gun but way way too big to carry and it probably would kill 5 people lined up and still keep going. Between my wife and I we own 7 or 8 handguns but all of them are sort of low end types. I’m going to do something special for my next purchase if only because I can. I’ll be sure to let you all know what I finally go with, pictures and all. Thanks again you have been wonderful.
I carry to protect myself and my loved ones from the BG's. Not to solve societies problems. That said: if more carried the deterrent would only have a positive overall effect on those problems.
