What you're seeing is the loaded chamber indicator. The extractor is internal (but completely unlike a 1911 extractor).
I looked at a few at the gun show, and it appears that the extractor is at the top of the chamber, not at the right side. Is that the case?
And a pic from somewhere on the internet, showing a comparison between Glock and XD slides.

It is my carry gun, if that is conventional wisdom, then I don't subscribe to it.

The trigger job makes my gun more accurate for me to shoot therefore it reduces my chance of a shot going somewhere I don't want it to go. Which is a much bigger concern then some prosecutors tying to go after me becuase I have modified my gun. The important thing is weather or not you should have shot....period.
Fact is my finger does not go on that trigger unless I intend to pull it.
I am trusting my life to this weapon so I will do what ever I think I can to make it the best for me, and that happens to include a trigger job, TFO sights, a solid steel guide rod, a heavier spring and decal grips.
Just my opinion
