    Beautiful gun. Beautiful story.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

What a beauty! And a great background story to boot. You might try one of the 1911 forums for more info on the El Rey. I saw an El Patron on Gun Brokers with a similar finish.

I wonder if the El Rey is a tribute to Elvis?

Colt made a series of "El xxx" guns. I believe El Presidente was another one. From what I recall, they were all "blinged" out with either high polish slides, gold trim, etc. IIRC all of them were .38 Super as well.

Think about it for a second ... Spanish names, non military caliber (civilians are forbidden to own military calibers in many Latin American countries), extra fancy finishes, etc. They were limited runs that command a premium and apparently were very sought after by our "Southern neighbors."

If you do decide to shoot it I'd recommend replacing the MOP grip panels first. They look nice but aren't very durable, use them for display and switch to something more sustantial for use. I'm sure Dan ("OD") could tell you much more about them.
