    XD Mag Release

I bought an XD45 4" compact in Dark Earth a couple months ago and love it. Only 50 rounds through it so far, but the mag release button is stiff. You really have to push hard on it. Same from the right and the left. Anyone have that problem -- or a fix? I have clipped a loop or 2 off a 1911 mag release spring to lighten it up, but I haven't looked at the XD mechanism yet. Maybe more use will make it settle in to a smooth feel.

Also, any recommendations on a good lube for the slide rails? - this is my first plastic pistol.

If you need to remove a full mag the best way to do it is push on the bottom of the mag while you push the mag release.

It will be less stiff with time

You can also polish the mag release cam and lever. Just remove burrs and polish - no reshaping. It's pretty easy to do as I recall, but it's been a while since I polished mine.

Yeah, mine is pretty new and I've only noticed the problem with a full mag. Otherwise, it's been fine from both sides. I need to clean it, so maybe this time I will figure out how to break it all the way down. Haven't taken it all the way apart yet...wonder if I could find some instructions on that.

    Thumbs up

Head on over to XDTalk forums and you'll find some great folks and a lot of useful information.

Also, there is a DVD of the full disassembly procedures. It is well worth the $20 I paid for it. I have used it to completely disassemble my XD, and now that I fully understand how all the parts work together, I'm even more confident carrying it and knowing what a safe gun it is to handle..

I have experienced the same stiff mag release but only with full magazines. even after two or three shots (tactical reloading) the release seems to be much easier.

Load the mag minus one round, install and remove mag a bunch of times. This should wear things in a bit, then try again with a full mag.

I wouldn't modify the spring at this point, it's not the problem IMO.

For lube you will be fine with whatever you were using on your 1911/revolvers. I'm not aware of any lubes that damage the plastic on poly guns.

My mag release lever and spring has gotten full of crap. I cleaned the body with a spray type cleaner, then I use a medical syringe to reach in therew and put a tiny drop of oil on the spring and moving parts. Cleared right up.

Thanks, it definately is just a problem with a full mag. I guess that's not a problem in a tactical situation - hopefully you aren't dropping a full mag! I will see if I can get in there and do some polishing and work it. Thanks!

My wifes XD had the same problem, but it got better with a little time. It just needs to be worked a bit.
