Unhappy The gun shop guys said they are having lots of problems with the XDs

Disclaimer: I don't know a lot about the XDs, this is just what I was told at the gun shop.

I was shooting yesterday and wanted to rent an XD in 9mm to help decide between it and the Glock 19.
Next thing I know I'm in a discussion with several of the shop guys and they are telling me they have to keep returning the rental XDs for repairs. Something about the firing pin mechanisms keep blowing out (seems like that is what they said??) They recommended the Glock over the XD hands down, according to them it was MUCH more reliable. This is the first time I've heard any negatives about the XDs, any thoughts/experiences?

My guess is this, the store is having problems getting any XDs in stock, they have a lot of Glocks and so are trying to sell you one of the Glocks. If not then they are just biased, I see no evidence to support XDs being a problem.

I have both, both work fine.

Haven't heard about that, I wonder if it has anything do with the level of lack thereof of maintance/cleaning/care that the rental gun gets. I own one in .40 and haven't had the slghtest problem or sign of impending problem with it.

    YMMV
    Thanks

If it is true, I'm sure it has to do with the abuse range guns get pounded with.

Never, ever had a problem with my XD- accurate, reliable as the sunrise, with every kind of ammo.

Went shooting yesterday with 4 other guys....each shot XD's, and every one of us shot a few hundred rounds.

No issues of any sort. No FTF, FTE, nothing. And none of them ever has had any, either.

    I'd be a little suspicious.....

It's just more of the Glock versus XD syndrome, I have 2 XD's with more than 1000+ rounds each down-range using just about every known major brand of "cheap" range ammo. The results, the only FTF I've had was with CCC aluminum casing and even then it's only happened with my XD 9mm sc. Is this a plug for XD's "hell yes", am I dumping on the Glock "hell no", I'm currently looking to buy a Glock 21sf. We all have different likes, wants, and needs, I have small hands and Glock's just never felt "right" to me. In the end you have to go with your gut instincts over other's opinion's. One thing about renting versus "buy and try", those rentals are really used and abused, and rarely cleaned so they will only represent the extremes. Kinda like driving a used car, if the owner never changed the oil, did a tune-up, or maintained it, no matter how great it looked it's still junk.

+1 to the suggestions those guys just have Glocks to sell..

If the firing pin mechanisms were having issues, we'd be hearing about it over in XDTalk..

    And we're not..

I think those guys are just talking bunk..

We have a pile of XDs where I work, have had some since they came out. Zero problems.
OK, we have a lot of Glocks, too -- zero problems (just didn't want to come across for or against anything, both are fine guns and extremely durable).

I have and a friend has shot thousands of rounds through XDs and have had no problems. My friend shot about 1200 rounds through his at Gunsite in a class and had zero probs of any kind.

12,000 rounds and I'm just now starting to get a few Failures to Fire on my reloads. Springfield wanted me to clean the firing pin mechanism to make sure it's not gunked up. I did and will check it out next week. Could be a bad bunch of primers too. Other than that, it's been a great gun.

Well, you wouldn't be hearing about it if the pro-XD conspiracy were doing its job, so apparently it has.

The guns are made in Croatia, right? This is obviously a communist plot to sell us inferior guns, then load up the internet with false information about how reliable they are until they're all we rely on. You can see it's working probably better than those commies ever hoped!

Croatia is post-Communist, but you knew that right?
