I think the Gunbroker sellers are practicing some "creative marketing". According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, there is no Model 29 named the "Bounty Hunter".

S&W made a Model 29-3, with 3 inch barrel, for Lew Horton Distributors, called (of course) the Lew Horton Special. 200 were manufactured in 1985, product code 101224.

Not sure about that particular model, but I shot a friend's short-barreled model 29 a while ago - and don't have fond memories of the experience. That was a case of "too little" of a good thing for me...

My 629 "Mountain Gun" was about the lightest .44 I could shoot regularly with Magnum ammunition, and I usually shot .44 Special reloads in it. For me, the minimum "comfortable" level for full house .44 Mag loads is the 5" 629 DLX...

    Bounty Hunter

I think you might find it under the "Duane Chapman Signature Edition." Comes with a bicep jewelry, thigh holster and a certificate good for a really bad hair dye/cut.

    ok....never thought about a 3" model.
A fixed sight version with a 3" barrel in .41 mag and you'd have a border patrol special

A few months ago I saw an S&W 3" N frame .44 mag marked as the " Bounty Hunter". It was another limited run from a distributor. It was bought the next day and haven't seen another since.

S&W made a run of 629s with 3 inch barrel and finger groved grips in 1989. A great little woods gun in black bear country. Pretty good with 2 legged problems also. It does have some recoil and muzzle blast to it.

I had a 29-3 (I think was the dash number) for several years. It was a double hand full with the factory roundbutt grips, but a set of Pach's tamed it some. I could not tell any difference between it and the 4 inch version with regards to recoil, but the blast difference was noticeable.
The biggest problem is finding holsters in the proper barrel lenght. Four inchers will work, but I'm old fashioned. I think that the holster lenght should be close to the barrel lenght. Eventually traded mine in for a Dan Wesson PM7. Good woods gun and even took a deer with it two years ago.
