I wouldn't get rid of the Glock. No reasons really needed for that one. I have not picked up the M&P yet with my paws, so I cant comment on it.

You know, looking at the site that DHart posted reminded me of one of the things I like about Glocks. The mags are so much cheaper. As are most of the other little things you can replace on a Glock.

If you like the M&P and can afford it I'd say why not. How high does the bore axis sit on those?

Potential problem ahead... I'm not sure you can use the ampersand in a forum user name.

Also, don't forget to fill out the gun of the month quiz on shootingusa.com. There's a coupon for a free range bag from S&W with your gun purchase!

Before you dive in head first, do yourself a favor - have someone at the gun shop show you how the M&P field strips. I've seen it, looks almost as bad as a Ruger MKII.

Actually, I watched the guy behind the counter strip it lastnight and then he let me do it. It wasn't bad at all and, no requirement to pull the trigger before pulling the slide off the frame. That is one thing I really dislike about the Glock and the XD.

The bore axis is quite low by the way. A little lower than the Glock and a lot lower than the XD.

If you can live with it, go for it. I just find that having to pull a tool out of the grip to flip a tiny yellow lever inside the frame is a little bit ridiculous for a modern carry gun. I do agree with you about not necessitating the pulling of the trigger to strip, but it's less of an issue on the XD than on the Glock.

M&P has low bore axis... very nice. M&P field strips quite easily... not quite as easy as a Glock, but easy nonetheless. M&P trigger becomes awesome with a couple hundred rounds fired. Great gun. Unless you have mag drop issues, which has been a nightmare for a number of M&P owners. Low my M&P; hate it's reliability. Will be sending mine back to S&W next week for the second time to see if they can fix the problem... and it ain't going to be just replacing the mag catch... we tried that twice... to no avail.

Good luck and hope you buy the M&P. I bought a 9mm and it is my absolute favorite gun. Hope you are an owner soon.

Any pistol that I've ever gotten rid of I've regretted it later. If you got to have it, check about a layaway and go in every once in awhile to check it out. I had to go pay some on the EMP and hold it today as I'll be away for a month or two soon.

Tangle just posted a thread about some feeding issues with his M&P. Might want to read that thread if you haven't yet - something along the lines of 'three things M&P owners should know.'
    EDIT: Here's a link to it - http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulle...ad.php?t=27357

When I checked out the M&Ps I was impressed as well, though I thought the compact version was closer to the 19/23 that we're both currently taken with. I'd take a fullsize over a 17/22 but for these TN Summers the compact version really seemed to have possibilities... I'm hoping to pay off my G19 at the end of the month too btw.

I like the pinky extension on the mag on my M&P 40 Compact. But when I compare the size of the M&P 40 Compact with my G23, they're so close as to be no significant difference. But the M&P 40 Compact only holds 11 rounds and the G23 holds 14. And the G23 is time tested/time proven reliable and durable for the long haul.

I took my own advise and have a EMP, and a H&K P2000 in layaway. Keep the Glock, and get the one you want with no pressure on you.
