How do you carry your full-size, all-steel 1911?

While there have been several 1911 carry threads, none have focused specifically on the ways we all carry the 5" all-steel version. What holster do you use? What position on your body? What belt do you use?

In order that this thread may be a clean reference for others, I'd like to limit posts to carrying the full-size, all-steel 1911 only. Please no polymer frame, steel-slide only, aluminum, lightweights, Commanders, Operators, or scandium.

I carry several different 5" 1911's in a Ranger Gunleather OWB w/matching belt which is double thickness and wear it around the 3:30 position with a good holster and belt you soon forget it's there. I do this in the humid Mi. summers with a white T-shirt and a button down shirt for cover usuall only buttoned the bottom 2 buttons. Yes sometimes it shows a little bulge when bending etc but no one has noticed yet. Went to dinner and grocery shopping last night this way and both places were busy. Buy the best belt you can find for you and it becomes easier. I'm 5'11" and 250 for body size.

When I carry my govmint model, it's in a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 (IWB) at about 4:00 on a 1 1/2 inch gun belt (do not recall manufacturer).

Position at 3:30 IWB Sam Andrews McDaniels II Very comfortable. I also have a Milt Sparks Summer Special for the gun but I don't wear it too much having fallen victim to a Newfoundland PUPPY in the middle of teething a few years ago. Still serviceable, tho.

i carry my mil-spec springfield black parked all steel 5" 1911 in two K&D holsters with his belt and spare mag holder .

    i'm 5'9"ish 206#ish 34" waist .

the iwb can be carried with less cant and more towards 3:30 , my owb has more cant and lays up under my love handle nicely around 2:45 -3:00 , with the muzzle around 3:30 . when putting my hand in my front pocket the break in my wrist fits just right around and over the slide .

prior to receiving my order from K&D, i had bought a gun belt from the police supply house , it has a piece of plastic in it . only cost 26 bucks and worked well . supported the weight good and even . but it did not compare to the belt i received with my order . it makes the weight almost disappear .

the 1911 is a great choice made easier with a fine holster and belt combo .

5" Mil-Spec in a Brommeland MaxCon V at 3:30-4:00, Brommeland magpouch at roughly 9:00. Belts are all 1.5" by: Milt Sparks, HBE or Wilderness Instructor's belt.

I'm 6'3" and weigh 230 lbs. I carry my 1911 IWB with no holster. I realize that many will decry such a method but I've been doing it for over 30 years in perfect comfort and safety. I've always worn suit and tie to work. Considering IWB when purchasing trousers and belts (and watching one's waistline) makes the 1911 one of the easiest pistols to carry this way. I'm right handed and carry the pistol at the back edge of my left hip bone.

I like full-sized handguns for concealed carry and have always been able to accommodate them. I don't mind the weight.

5" all-steel Kimber Desert Warrior, 3:30 - 4:00 in a Tucker HF1 OWB. With a quality gunbelt, gives great support and is easily concealable.

I carry my 5" steel 1911 in a SideArmor IWB, with the optional outrigger and a 1.5" gun belt. I can do this well in cargo shorts and jeans, but in dress slacks I usually go with a different gun, mostly because I use a 1.25" belt, and I just can't get "tuckable" holsters to conceal properly.

If I have to carry IWB with a shirt untucked, it's in a Blade-tech kydex holster wherever happens to be comfortable on the right hip at the time. If I'm going out and can wear a jacket or coat, it's OWB in a very comfortable wilson combat low profile leather holster. I can wear my 1911 all day in that thing and literally not think about it. Super comfortable, high and tight to the body.
