If you have a Kimber Ultra CDP it probably serves as a carry gun so that small size is important. A mag well makes the grip a little longer and larger, but supposedly helps one make faster reloads. So that is the essential tradeoff - size vs. speed of mag change. Only you can answer that question for your own situation.
I personally would leave the magwell off a carry gun so as not to increase its size. I think the odds of having to make a rapid mag change during defensive use are very small indeed. But it is your call.
personal preference I have a mag well on all of my Carry guns i dont feel it adds that much more to it
On my carry 1911s I have mag wells on ALL of them. They only add 1/4 inch, but make a huge difference when reloading.... especially while moving!
There are many different ones available as well. Here are three different makes & styles available: left, 2-piece Wilson Combat; center S&A 2-piece; right Dawson 1-piece.

I had one on my Tac II pro ... they do greatly ease reloading so I was reluctant to take it off and still have mixed feelings about it. However, to compensate for this, I've shot a few IPSC matches with it and practice speed-mag changes a lot.
You should buy one with your carry piece. If you want later, you can take it off but try carrying with it on for a while.
Are the magwells all a standard thickness from (top to bottom) or can you get thinner ones?
S&A makes a thin magwell
Well I am going to try it, and if I don't like it then I can just take it off. Thanks for the info!

I have always carried my Ultra CDP with the stock mags with no base plate. My two reload mags are Wilson Combat mags with the 1/4" baseplate for more secure reloading. The flat based mags are much easier to conceal but take extra effort when reloading during speed shooting. I think a speed chute would be just like having the longer mags in all the time. Mike

I’ve got a magwell on my Stinger, it’s surprising how that little 1/4” makes the officers length grip feel more secure and it speeds up reloads.
The magwell and Tripp 7 round officer length mags make a pretty good combination.
