What is the quality and durability of the Rock Island 1911,the price seems to be good?
I've had 2 of then for several years now ( RIA's) and if you want a stone stock 1911 to shoot and have fun with they cant be beat. They are uterly reliable and feed everything I have thrown at them.
Gun Control: What a long strange trip it's been
Depends is Guess i have a RIA Super 38 and it has held up well and shoots great
They are a bit rough tool marks and such but you get what you pay for
Mine has eaten mixed mags of every type of ammo I can get my hands on and has not missed a beat. I absolutley love the Rock .45 and would buy another one in a heartbeat.
When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts & minds will follow. Semper Fi.
I carry one every day and night. Get one now because the prices are going up fast. Btw, they carry a limited lifetime warranty.
(If that didn't sound like a sales pitch I don't know what does)

I had one for about a year and it ran great. The only problem I had was that it didn't see to like Wilson Combat magazines for some reason. Just wouldn't feed right with them. The mags worked just fine in other 1911's that day. Maybe it was due to it being a Commander sized 6 rounder stock and the Wilson was an 8 rounder. But the gun was wonderful, except I couldn't get any local smith to even consider putting a beavertail on it. They all kept telling me they weren't "standard" enough and they couldn't get them to fit. Idiots.

Moving Eventually ... Montana or Wyoming anyone?
I have had a mil-spec High Standard for a couple years now. Have had no problems with it and it is a good shooter, although I consider a full size 1911 a little large for comfortable concealed carry. It really likes Remington 230gr FMJ's and Winchester 230gr JHP's. My 13 year young grandson likes to shoot it more than my Kimber Ultra Carry or my S&W 6946 9mm. I have no problem using it for a home defense gun or a car gun while traveling. I would purchase another in a heart beat if I run across someone who wants to dump one for a more prestegious name brand.
I have 2 Rock Islands: M1911-A1 and Compact. After 500 rounds I started carrying the M1911-A1 everyday. The Compact is looking for an IWB ambi...any suggestions?...for ccw. The Compact took about 800 rounds to smooth out but now I would trust it in any situation. I likes me some Rock!
<=====That is the Compact.

Have to cut the frame to get a beavertail to fit unless you use a wilson drop in
here is a pic of my Super 38 With different Stocks
Thats plenty of info! I want to buy a Rock Is. in .45 acp (yea) but I'm really interested in a .38 SUPER. Great price and a bit a history to boot.
Question- Besides FMJ, what other .38 super ammo has any of you folks used that was reliable?
Thanks again.-GREAT PICTURE-gatta git one.

I have nothing but praise for my RIA. I consider the RIA to be the successor to Norinco and that is a compliment. Regards, Richard
