Beretta PX4 Storm Sub Compact
I just got one of my gun magazines in the mail the other day (not sure which one) but it had the Beretta PX4 Storm Sub Compact 9mm on the cover.
Now, I love Beretta. I think they make some very fine guns and you have to respect a company that has been in business, doing the same thing, owned by the same family for as long as they have.
But tell me this, am I the only guy out here who thinks this little Beretta is one of the ugliest guns they have seen in a long time? I think this gun is just butt ugly, but at the same time, I am drawn to it.
I want to hold one but there is something almost beautiful about the utilitarian nature of this ugly little gun.
I'd like to hear a range report from anyone who actually owns one. And it hear opinions about the gun from anyone else.

I agree with ya, Beretta has been falling on its face in the handgun world after the 92 series. Shotguns on the other hand...

This size comparison might help you see why it seems ugly.
The rounded trigger guard, the grip seems 'longer' from front to backstrap, exaggerated cutaway around trigger area...
Compared with the SA, Glock, HK and K-T it looks like a futuristic snubby.
Weird gun, I'll pass just because I am perfectly happy with Glocks and XDs.

Mike, Guns & Ammo August issue. I don't find it ugly, but I am drawn to it. Of course I already have a CX4 in 9mm. I like the fullsize PX4, but don't really want another fullsize pistol. I have not seen an official release date for the sub-compact yet.

Ugly, I don't think I've met a gun yet I would call ugly, they all look the same starring down the barrel end.

Call me wierd but that's not the way I look at guns.
And why they put a rounded trigger guard on it I haven no idea.
I was reading the article and trying to find out how thick the pistol was. But I think I'll pass, my P2000SK is muck nicer.

More information from website
Here is some additional information on the gun from the Beretta website. It looks stubby because the barrel is only 3 inches long, which is less than some of the competing guns. It is fairly heavy at 25 ounces empty, and has large magazine capacity (13 rounds of 9mm, 10 rounds of .40).
Overall Length 158 mm (6.2 inch)
Overall Height 122 mm (4,8 inch)
Barrel Length 76 mm (3.0 inch)
Sight Radius 122 mm (4.8 inch)
Grip Width 30 mm (1.2 inch)
Weight Unloaded 715 grams (25.2 ounces)
Magazine Capacity 13 rounds (9mm)
Magazine Capacity 10 rounds (40$&W)

Definitely different looking
It's so different than anything else out there ... That may be contributing to the comments of "ugly". Personally, I carry a G19 so I may not be the guy that rushes to calling other guns ugly - hehe. I suspect I lean towards dependability / utility 1st, fit / finish 2nd, and everything else 3rd, 4th, etc.
Compared to the VERY nice 1911 army that's currently taking over the world I guess PX4 one is going to fall short in the looks category, but the review from G&A magazine, if I remember correctly, was glowing. I suppose there's a gun out there for everyone, right?

rounded trigger guards prevent snagging to allow for smooth movement when drawing or holstering. it is stubby and short but what makes it look weird is that the feature that hasn't changed, is the size of the trigger and trigger guard due to your own "hands and fingers" not going sub-compact
What's this button do?

Beauty and the beholder
I suppose that the concept of beauty in a handgun is very subjective and depends on the individual taste of a person.
I haven't seen the new subcompact Beretta PX4, but I looked at and handled the full size version of the PX4 in a gun shop. The gun was lying in a case next to Glocks, Springfield XDs, H&K USPs and other polymer guns. I thought the full size Beretta was one of the best looking polymer guns I had seen, and it certainly had one of the most comfortable grips I have held. Italians are well known for attractive designs in consumer products, and this gun seemed to be from the same tradition.
I would expect the subcompact version of the gun to look a bit stubby and "undeveloped", as it is based on the full size gun with shorter slide and grip. You can see this with subcompact Glocks and XDs, as well. Here is the full size PX4:
