I am thinking of getting the SPRINGFIELD ARMORY ULTRA-COMPACT V-10 STAINLESS 1911 PISTOL for my concealed carry. Does anyone have any advice and/or opinion on this particular pistol for CC???

Make sure you get a good belt, good holster and maybe even some suspenders to keep it all up.

Is it that heavy or something? I believe a good belt/holster should be just fine. I am a big boy now and I believe I can handle the weight. But as for suspenders, I don't think so buddy.

Hahaha, get some of those rainbow ones, you'll be set. Really though, it is a bit heavy for such a little gun. Porting isnt such a good idea for a carry gun.
If I were you, I'd look into the light weight models.

Thanks for the help but it is a really nice gun, I may just buy it anyway. Haha. Here is a picture of it, for those not familiar with it.

The V-10 is the ported model. I've heard from others the sights get covered in powder after just a few shots, and that shooting at night can be blinding. I have no firsthand experience with the ported barrels, but maybe some others can offer their thoughts.

I've had plenty of experiance with ported guns, and would never buy one.
It is a nice gun, but I just dont think its the best choice for CCW or defense purpose mainly due to the ports.

I once owned the Hi-cap version of that (without the ports). Mine had serious function issues and was LOUD with hot loads, with those ports it'll be even more so - and no, they're not really that heavy. I mean come on, it's a 3.5" OACP not a Colt Dragoon.
Overall, Springfield makes good guns so if that's the one that tickles your fancy I'd think you'd be fine in buying it.

Thx everyone. I have a lot to think about. Ha.

You seem to be set on the Springfield Ultra Carry in stainless steel with ported barrel, a 32 ounce all steel gun. But since you asked for advice, mine would be to avoid porting on a carry gun, for the reasons others have already mentioned. I had one ported gun and decided that the problems outweighed the benefits.
I would also look for an aluminum framed 1911 for carry, which would save you about 8 ounces (half a pound) in a gun you are carrying around all day. My choice would either be the 3 inch barrel Kimber Ultra Carry or the Colt Defender, both of which have aluminum frames and weigh 24 ounces empty. Here is the Kimber:

Micro 1911's seem to be somewhat hit or miss with reliability feeding. Might want to consider a 4" 1911, too. I carry a SA Champ, no problems.

Yep Sixto is right on here. I have shot ported guns and they wouldn't even make the list for a CCW weapon. Rent one if possible and shoot it in the dark. Then make a decision. Also don't forget the blow back that will end up in your face. God forbid you have to shoot from a low frontal position.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft!

I know 3 guys who swear by their Springfield microcompact 1911's. And i trust their judgement, altho they don't have the ported barrell..
