My first gun
I finally bought one. I received my CCW permit about a month ago and spent the month renting guns and practicing to determine what I should buy.
I was very close to buying the XD40SC but the M&P mag deal made me think twice.
I am now the proud owner of a SW 340. Pictures tomorrow.
I think I will take Sarah Brady's advice...a gun a month.

Congratulations
Now since this is your first gun, go get some training in the proper use of firearms BEFORE you start carrying it! Welcome to the world!

Is the 340 a scandium frame?
I'd really like to see a range report on one of those.
I don't know what scandium is; it sounds like a metal. The grip is some kind of plastic/rubber stuff. It feels very good in my hand, which is one reason I selected that model. That, and it can shoot .357 though I only shot .38 special when I tried [a similar model] out.
I will put one hundred rounds through it next week and provide a range report.

Yes, the 340 and all of its variants are Scandium framed guns. It will have either a titanium cylinder or a stainless steel cylinder depending on the model. There are also different sights to choose from.

Congratulations! Before you know it, you'll have more guns than you'll have time to tend to them with loving care and pampering visits to the range.

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
Still can't believe what happened on 11/06/12! Disgusted and disappointed!

Congratulations bro! No matter how many guns you have that 340 will always be special!
Good choice by the way!

Thanks. I was going to post picture today but they came out blurry. Plus, they were too big to upload.
I am taking it to the range tomorrow. I plan on shooting .38 special, .38 special +p and .357 magnum. From what I understand about the 340 I will be firing 101 rounds, 50, 50, 1.
It is 12 ounces. My cell phone weighs more. And, now I know what scandium is!

Have fun and HANG ON! My aluminum framed Mod 37 kicks pretty good, and that's only with .38 +P. Let us know how the .357s treat you.
