Smile My gunshop got me again!!

I went into my toystore to innocently purchase some target backers this morning, I was no more in the door and the owner called me in the back of the shop (uh-oh). He then put a pristine Colt 380 Mustang Pocketlite in my hand, that was part of an estate sale. He had done a serial # check and figured it was circa early to mid 70's. Needless to say, I put it on layaway and will pick it up on tuesday (payday). Does anyone own one of these cool little pistols? What can you tell me about them?

The Mustang is probably one of the best .380s out there, IIRC they went out of production in the early 90's. There are a few types of Colt .380s.

The Mustang is a scaled down version of the Gov't .380, there is the all steel Mustang, the all steel Mustang +II (Longer grip, 7 round mag) and the Mustang Pocketlite, which is the alloy framed version of the all steel Mustang.

Be sure you check the bore thoroughly. For some reason, which I do not pretend to understand, an inordinate number of the ones I have seen have shown pitting. More than likely operator error. Very cool gun.

Yep, I did that, used a bore light and inspected it closely. IMO, I dont think that it has had more than a box of shells run through it at all. No wear on the bluing on the outside of the barrel, looks new. Paid $ 625.00 tax and all

JD, It's the alloy version, very light! I will post some pics next week

$625 is a good price for them, NIB goes for around $900

I paid $550 for my my +II and it was a steal.

My pocketlite is probably my most often carried pistol. It's the only thing I own that you can literary forget it's on you. recoil is minimum and the trigger on mine feels very good. The only thing I've added is a slip on finger grooved grip which works very well for the pistol feeling more comfortable in my hands. Enjoy your new find

    Yep - oh-oh

Nice result tho and leaving aside him doing business, good of him to give you dibs - quite a desirable lil' fella that is.

Congrats on the Pocketlite. I recently got a Mustang and have been very pleased with it. My only complaint is the size of the front sight. I can live with that. Be sure to post pictures when you get it.

I think Cylinder and Slide can replace that with some small Novak sights
