New to me Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special

Well i finally went full custom with the addition of a used TR Special from Les Baer, which was the reason I had my Sig and Smith 642 up for sale (thanks PA Explorer)

It's been worked on and this thing is slicker than slick.

The trigger and action jobs were superbly done, as well as the fitting of the mag well, and the thumb safety engages and disengages like a knife through butter, no hang, no drag, just a firm click.

The sights were replaced with Heinie straight eights, the match barrel was hard chromed, and the gun was refinished in one of the baked on finishes, I'm in process of getting the info from the smith that did the work after the gun left the factory to get all the details on what was done, but all I can say is that I love this gun. The only thing that needs to go are the grips, I don't care for the slim line grips and I think either some Mil-Tac, VZ or Monkey Grips are in order.

Thus far it's fed everything I put through it, even reloaded semi-wad cutters. It runs within the guide lines that QK listed HERE

Did I mention that I really, really like this gun?

So without further rambling here's a few pics:

There's some finish wear along the muzzle, the dust cover, and a small bit on the MSH, but as it is going to be a carry gun, I could care less.

Nice, if I ever decided to carry a 1911, that would be my choice.

    Thumbs up

Yep that's a fine common sense self~defense gun.
Nice, RELIABLE - hand fit - and sweetly extra accurate as a huge plus.

Are those CocoBolo thin checkered grips?
    They look like it.
Somebody should snatch them right up if you sell them on the forum.

You have every good reason to be happy with that pistol and congratulations on finally getting it into your appreciative hands even IF you were not the very first one to shoot it...after you bought it.

Yep they are the thin line CocoBolo (I can never spell it right so I don't bother) I just need to figure out what one's I want to replace them with, and they will be going up here shortly with a few other things that I have laying around.

I've got VZ Gator grips on my Baer - highly recommend them. Wood tended to get slippery in my hands - checkering didn't help. These VZ grips are great. They aren't so rough as to be uncomfortable carrying - I got the linen ones.

I had some black paper Gatorbacks, and the 320s, if I get another set of VZs they're probably going to be black 320s.

The lighter ones show moisture and looked stained after a while.
