Question Les Baer Premier II vs SIG 226 X5 Tactical

    Want a nice range gun.

    Different directions to go...

    Les Baer Premier II

    http://www.lesbaer.com/duty.html

    (or other Les Baer)

    SIG 226 X5 Tactical

    http://www.sigarms.com/Products/Show...&productid=144

My current gun is a HK P2000SK 9mm I use for carry.

It would be nice to own a nice 1911.

The 226 X5 Tactical is in 9mm which is what I have and I had a P229 and like the quality of SIG if ya get a good example.

The LB PII and 226 X5 Tac are the same price, just under $1400.

I have smallish hands- so the 1911 would be a better grip, but the 226 isn't bad.

    Hmmmm....

    What say you folks?

A 1911 with a superb trigger put together by a Master Gunsmith (like Les Baer) that knows what he is doing has no equal......

If you don't believe me, look at the guns that are winning the major matches in IPSC/IDPA & the Bianchi cup; You might see a different brand gun win every once in a while, but by and large more than 95% of all the winners are shooting some kind of 1911.

    Nuff said..

Yeah- I was slanting in favor of the LB. I like that it will fit my hands better and I can get a lot of different grips for the gun.

    Dean407,
If you are going Baer, do you know about Pro Load Distributors?
John's Baer prices are hard to beat. I bought a Concept VII and a Concept II recently and couldn't find better prices anywhere.
    A happy customer,

I know about ProLoad. I just posted in the thread where someone mentioned his awesome prices.

Pretty sure I will go with the LB at this point. :)

I typically think pros and cons when responding to this question. This time I dont have to! Les Baer, because it's well... Les Baer!

In all seriousness- I have one of their thunder ranch guns and it is superb. I would have multiple more if the budget allowed.

I think the Baer is more gun for the money, and it will hold value a little better.

I'm just wondering which LB to get now.

Premier II, Prowler III, or Concept V.

Can't go wrong I think- just a matter of preference.

Depends on what your going to do with it. I got two PII's, one I use for action shooting and carry. The other is a Concept VI. I carry it most of the time. Good luck with your pick.

I'm fairly new to guns. I'm wondering what this means on the Prowler III:

"We’re bringing back our very popular Prowler III, a modified version of our popular Premier II. This superb defensive handgun includes a tapered cone stub weight. It features superior recoil reduction and sight acquisition."

What on earth is a tapered cone stub weight?

Do 1911 owners walk around secretly coveting another man's tapered cone stub weight?!? LOL.

I think the barrel it self is weights more toward the muzzle then the standred barrels. It's got more weight on the muzzle end, shape like a cone.Hope this is right.

I have not found a more fun gun to shoot than a nicely tuned 1911...except maybe a nicely tuned Browing Hi-power....
