    What's a BUG?

    Excuse my ignorance, but I've been seeing this term pop up a lot in my few days around here. Best I can gather, it's in reference to a small pocket/ankle firearm. Like one of those little Kel-Tec or NAA belly guns? Am I close?

    BUG = Back Up Gun

    It can be a really little gun like the Kel-Tec or NAA pistols, but a lot of people carry something slightly larger, like a j-frame or a 3 inch barreled subcompact autoloader (such as a Glock 27).

    While the Glock is a fine weapon I feel that a J-Frame Revolver is a better BUG due to where a BUG is often carried and is a hair more reliable.
    Besides, some of us are not "enomoured" with plastic bottomfeeders.

    My option for BUGs are Kel-tec P32 and Model 60. I always have one of them on me in addition to a primary available to my weak hand in a pocket generally.

    This is a BUG. Because if 13 rounds of .40 can't do it, I want artillery. http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=5301

    Now that BUG has been thoroughly defined, perhaps we should define a form of a BUG known as a GNAT.
    GNAT = Gun Not Available Today. GNATs can become BUGs just by carrying it instead of leaving it home.

    Not that I always have one...but my P-3AT in a front pocket holster, serves as a perfect BUG...
