    'New' Colt Detective Special

In celebration of Missouri's archaic 'permit to acquire' law being repealed, I picked up a Colt Detective Special tonight. Purchased it over a month back, already bought a holster, but didn't pick it up until the PTA law expired (today)

Hoster is in Iguana skin, from UBG. Fits like a glove :) This little beauty just screams for a nice set of grips... perhaps something in rosewood?

This is my first Colt... All my other revolvers are S&W. Good thing Colt doesn't make these DA revolvers any more, or I'd be in trouble... these things are beautiful!

So - the PTA has expired - wasn't aware of that but darned good news tho.

Great snub is that and the rig looks dreamy nice. Great carry combo there for sure.

    Outstanding!

Colt should never have discontinued the D frames.

Take a look at these stocks by Herrett's.

I find the original stocks a great fit and very nice looking...unless they don't fit your hands, I wouldn't change a thing...Colt really go it right with the DS all the way around.

Excellent acquisition! I had one years ago and wish I hadn't sold it. I'm looking for another one now, just like the one you have. I bought a Cobra in the same configuration for my young bride's birthday this year.

I concur, the original grips are great. Try 'em out before changing.
    Cheers,

I'm sure the original grips are fine for shooting, I just don't want to beat them up carrying it around. I'm not planning on making this a primary carry gun, I'll keep to plastic and hard chrome for that.

Gun was made in '79, if I'm not mistaken.

    Thanks all!

    Grip suggestion - Hogue monogrips

I have a Colt Detective Special very similar to yours, and put Hogue monogrips on it, in mesquite wood. These are available from Hogue in a variety of different woods, however. You might want to take a look at the Hogue website:
