    1911 Slide Stop

Doesnt have to be just a 1911 design pistol but any in general but this seems to be more of a worry issue on 1911 than any other...

This thought was brought on by post ya see on 1911 forums about slide locking back prematurely..

SOOO why not trim the slide stop so you dont worry about it .. This is done by at least one builder if requested and i agree with him you need to think long and hard about it before having it done...

No worrys about having slide lock back with 2-3 in the mag causing a tap rack bang type clearance. Shoot it dry slap a new mag and rack and go would it be slower sure some what but if you pratice a lot could probley change mags just as fast.

Now Rember i use my Slide Stop as just that i dont use them as a release i Sling Shoot the slide on all my autos never use the Slide stop to release it.

So for me im grabbing the slide in a racking motion anyways

So what do ya think about this ?

Not sure if i want to modify a stop this way or not.

I think it's a number of things. Could be the mag, could be the load, could be the way you're hanging on to it.

    I don't think I would make a permanent modification....

I wouldn't modify the slide either....seems we've had discussions about this problem and if I recall, the magazine was usually the culprit...my advice would be to check this out...determine which mags are doing it, and toss them.

I definately wouldn't modify a gun this way. I have read posts on other forums where people had similar problems. When they switched to a new magazine (preferrably from another company), the problems went away.

No no your not catching me here Im not having the Problem on any gun .... and the mod isnt to anything but the slide stops its self ... not the slide nor frame..

But i read so much about this thats why the thought came up and after reading about it in a 1911 book i saw i wasnt the only one who had thought off this

I believe the first step in having lasting problems is to modify something that does not need it. In general if a firearm is having a situation with locking back it is usually the mag follower being chipped and needed replaceent. I really made an error early on with a Kimber screwing around with stuff unrelated to the problem because I didn't understand what I was doing and got bad advice from a forum(not this one).
