I don't know why the OP was attacked for a first post being about a bad experience. I mean, as far as I'm aware your membership here doesn't require you to make a specific first post (a hello would be nice) to make sure you're "one of us". Frankly the attack was extremely judgmental and completely unnecessary. With that out of the way, Taurus QC is not exactly a secret. When you buy from the company, you are taking a risk. It's also well known that their CS is all but useless. As others have said too, when you drop below a certain price point you're going to have to assume that you're going to take a hit somewhere. You're simply not going to get Les Baer quality at Hi Point prices.

My first post on this forum was a negative review of one style of a popular brand of holster. i was never chastised or challenged for not knowing that I was supposed to do a new member introduction and become known before I posted what I had to say.

Because of the fact that I was not criticized or challenged, I have remained an active member since that first post in August of 2013.

Have things changed that much here? Do we have to pass some kind of sincerity or legitimacy test now?

Well, it kinda depends. Is he trying to relay useful information, or simply angry and lashing out by creating user accounts on every forum in sight and trashing the company he's angry at? If the latter, it doesn't mean he won't be a good member, but it's fair (I think) to question the motivation. It happens now and then.

I mean, if the gun had blown up in his hand or something, that'd be one thing; but the fact that a Taurus didn't work and their service is slow isn't really a "stop the presses" situation.

No. However, when a first post is specifically to denounce a product, and a web search shows the same information showing up as first posts on other forums, it's pretty clear the intent is to find a soapbox to spout from, rather than to become a contributing member and share information. As moderators we let that stuff fly and sort itself out unless it's really ugly. More times than not, the axe-grinders disappear after a few posts, but the really nice ones stick around for,oh, 4500 or so posts.

What's the old adage - Have a good experience, tell 3-5 people. Have a bad experience, tell 20 people.

Nowadays that translates to joining as many forums as possible, and relating one's negative experience. The OP likely has little experience with the fact Manufacturer's quality issues, especially Taurus, have been posted, and discussed, ad nauseum on most firearms boards.

Let's give the guy a break, a little commiseration, (very little since it is, after all, a Taurus product) and some suggestions how to avoid such issues in the future.

Maybe with a few helpful suggestions, the OP could well become a valuable member.

In addition, people expect to have Ruger-level assurance of no problems out of the box, as well as Ruger-level customer service?
Totally agree. I wish Taurus would just nut up and improve the reliability and thier customer service and charge 30% higher because i believe the TCP is superior to the LCP in almost every way but reliability and customer service. Although mine has been pretty good right out of the box.

Well, since the guy bought a Taurus I'm going to assume that he's new to handguns. Their are just enough good results with this maker to entice a lot of people to gamble on them, usually with predictable results. I'm inclined to give the guy a break and take a wait-and-see attitude. If he chooses to stick around, well and good. If not, then he's gone and not a factor. Either way, it sorts itself out.

I head a facebook page with 50k members (Truckers: Buy,Sell,Trade), it's amazing the amount of spam, porn, irrelevant and outside of the few and simple rules we have posted. I feel your pain, and yea they usually weed themselves out LOL!!

A sub-$200 mouse gun that doesn't run like it stole something? I'm shocked.

    Super accurate with minimal kick.

Based that experience purchased the 738 TCP.

At least 30 jams with less than 200 rounds. The last round will not feed due the magazine prematurely engaging the slide lock.

Finally, the magazine release button spring came loose so the button falls out.

Sent the gun in and was told 4 to 6 weeks repair (on a new gun). At 6 weeks they've done zero to fix the gun. Now they say 6 to 8 weeks!

Can you imagine buying a new car and the dealer tells you 2 months to get it repaired?

Called Ruger to check the repair time for an LCP; 7 to 10 business days.

Absolutely done with Taurus and their horrible random quality and worst ever customer service. Would not even consider the new Spectrum 380.

Do not recommend the 738 TCP gun or their customer service. Run!

Victor (OP), I understand your remorse and disappointment with your new TCP not running and having to wait to have it addressed. It is never a good thing to have that happen. Taurus unfortunately has the reputation of hit and miss. Some run very well and others not so well. The G2s and 709s seem to be pretty universally raved about and the TCPs up and down.

I currently have four Taurus pistols: two TCPs, a TP-22 tip barrel and a TP-25 tip barrel. I have owned two Taurus Model 92s, one blue and one stainless, in 9mm. Out of the six I have owned, one of the Model 92s had significant issues with parts out of spec and had to be returned to the manufacture. The repairs entailed essentially replacing all parts except the frame, grips, and barrel. Both tip barrels are fine, with the .25 acp running very well and the .22 being finicky about ammo selection.

Some of the DC Forum members have had good luck with the TCPs and other haven't. One of my co-workers has one that he is very pleased with. Knowing that there is mixed experience with them, I came across a close out deal recently and picked up two identical TCPs with the fake carbon fiber grip/frames at a very good price, so low I thought I would take a chance. So far I have put 100 rounds of mixed ammo through each of them. One of them was perfect and one was a little troublesome with the last round in the magazine hanging up, so further work is needed. In my opinion they have a good trigger, are pretty accurate, have poor sights, a comfortable grip for a small pistol, and are easier to shoot than the Gen I LCPs due to their grip configuration and good trigger pulls.

I am not much to gamble. I don't play the slots, buy lottery tickets, etc. I won't gamble with the firearm I carry for personal defense. Would I carry a Taurus? Like the man said, it depends. If it was what I could afford and I had shot it enough to be comfortable with its performance, perhaps I would. Do I carry one? No, not at this time. While any firearm can and will fail, my overall experience with Taurus doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling so I will likely only shoot them at the range.

I have 3 Taurus revolvers and over the years have had no problems but when it comes to their autos 2 were just the opposite.

This sounds like a post that can be found over on the Kimber site. Except when you pay $700 for a gun, you tend to be more forgiving for the need to "get it right over time". I had a TCP and my particular copy never had a hiccup. Mine may have been a unicorn, but looks like some others have had similar experience. I'm not defending Taurus. That is their business to do.

I agree about the attack, seems like a lot of that here. If someone is going to market a product they should at least make sure it works correctly before they put it in a box and ship it to consumers. Many Co do not do that and the consumer bears the burden, not the manufacturer. There is lots of junk out there for sale today, it didn't used to be this way.
