I plan to buy another handgun next month

Next month I receive $1,654 from the great state of Alaska, and I plan to use part of it for a new gun. I'm really digging the Beretta 92FS, because I really like the look and feel of it. I also had the opportunity to fondle a Glock 21SF, which I like, but the cost to shoot it is sort of turning me away from getting another pistol in .45 ACP, so I'm leaning more towards another 9mm. The Glock 26 is still on my list, and so is the XD9. I would just get both the G26 and Beretta, but my car is in need of repair, so I'll be using the other part of my free money for that.

So I guess to layout my criteria better...

    $600 or less
    9mm
Be able to safely carry chambered
    Able to take hi-cap mags
    Holsters available

So far that Beretta 92FS is winning! I really like that gun!

    Suggestion

A quality 9mm that is well under $600 is the aluminum frame CZ P01. It takes a high capacity magazine but is smaller and lighter than the Beretta 92 for easier concealed carry. It weighs 27 ounces and has a 3.9 inch barrel.

I have an XD9 service and XD45 tactical. I'm also concidering getting an XD45 service. I've only had the infamous rust problem on the XD9 that Springfield took care of. There customer serivce is top notch.

If you like the Berretta go for it.

I love my Glocks, if want more capacity get a G19 rather than a G26.

If you like the Beretta, than buy that.

The 92 series Berettas are, imho, the best shooting full size 9mm pistols on the market today. Total reliability, very accurate, and proven in combat for the last 20 years. You will love shooting this pistol.

    $600 or less - yes
    9mm - yes
Be able to safely carry chambered - yes, hammer down and
    safety on if you wish
    Able to take hi-cap mags - yes, 15, 17, & 20 rd. mags available
    Holsters available - yes, everywhere

Yep, the Beretta 92FS is an all around winner!

MP 9 in full size or compact. I like my 40c but you can still us full size mags 15 rounders in mine and 9 are 17 rounders.

    S&W M&P9mm. Feels like a GM w/o the weight.

If you want something really small, look at the Kahr PM9. Mine's been flawless and was just over $500 new, out the door. Can handle +p pressures all day long, too.

edited to add: What is this "free money" from AK you speak of?

    +1 for the M&P.

The compact versions handle the full size mags.

very comfortable to hold and shoot.

    I'd go with a Cz-75C

Hard to go wrong with the XD.
It seems your a bit worried about safely carrying while having a round chambered. The XD has that nice duel safety system of the grip safety like on a 1911 and the trigger safety like on the glock.

of course I am biased since the XD-9 is my carry gun of choice

I am quite familiar with the XD, and have owned the XD9 and XD45 service models. I'm not quite sure why I sold them... well no, the reason why I sold the XD9 is because it had the old finish on it that would be prone to rust, the XD45, I'm not sure why.
