Today was a great day for me and my sister. She's taken an interest in protecting herself and her kids, and understands the responsibility of owning a firearm. Now she's never shot a gun before in her life, so she's going to attend a Womens Only class sometime in the near future. Anyway I helped her pick out her first handgun. She looked at a few Glocks and XDs, and she had trouble working the slides, so the clerk suggested a revolver. She ended up walking out with a Smith & Wesson snubnose .38 with a shrouded hammer. The tag said "AIRWEIGHT BODYGUARD" or something like that. So I'm proud of her for taking responsibility for her own safety and the safety of her kids.
Now as for me, I was still torn between the Beretta 92FS, and Glock 23. I ended up putting a Glock 23 on layaway, and will be picking it up in a couple weeks. I figured with it being the same size as my G19, I wouldn't have to buy a new holster, just ammo. Anyway, it was a long and exciting day for both of us.
Sure does sound like a great day. I think you both made some great choices. I love to see a woman take it upon herself to protect herself and the family. Congrats!
This is always in the ''good news'' category - great to hear. I can share your excitement :smilez:
I still wish more young ladies would ''see the light'' and enable themselves - and if too of course they work into it properly with some instruction - they'll be well equipped to keep themselves and young 'uns safer.
I want to see the CCW "movement" grow and grow - and that trend is I believe there - better than even 2 or 3 years ago.
Great news! I'm still trying to convince my wife to take an interest in shooting and protection. I could be mistaken but it sounds like your sister might have gotten a 638 S&W - the J-frames are excellent guns that pack easily when larger guns might not. Good choice on the G23, I had a 92fs some years ago - I expected more for the high price tag.

Great, another one armed and getting prepared and two new guns bought! Sounds like a great day.
Goodness, I hope your sister never needs it, but by god, it sure makes everyone sleep better knowing she now has a means to defend herself and her children.
your sis made an excellent choice,,,best of luck to her,,my wife is also waiting on here ccw permit,,shes eyeing a berreta,,,we do need more ladies involved, its very important
Glad you both got new tools today. I also think a revolver was a good choice. It is what I recommend for a first gun to everyone, although not an airweight. These extremely light revolvers can be a bit brutal to shoot especially for a first time shooter. Just curious you didn't say she planned on CCing so why not choose a SS model like the good ole Model 60?
I always enjoyed shooting with my brothers. Siblings at the range will compete for the most holes center mass.........congrats on your sis for the profound responsability she's taking on.
As for you......start centering your groups with the G19 and your new G23, sister will with her .38.
Thanks everyone for the replies. It makes me happy that she's finally able to have the means to protect herself and her children. As for me, I've had some good practice with my Glock 19, and it's a fun little gun to shoot. I just wanna try something a little bigger. I've shot .45 and 9mm, but haven't really tried .40 yet. I understand the .40 tends to have snappier recoil, but I'm in no way recoil shy, so I'll give it a shot.
