Cleaning S&W 442
Have read here and was told by S&W customer rep to not use Hoppes 9 to clean the gun. He suggested Rem Oil or FP-10.
I have some FP-10 I bought a few years ago and it says it is a lubricant. The FP-10 on store shelf says it cleans and lubes. Did they change the formula?
What do you all use to clean and lube your 442?
S&W 637...and others too!
I swab the chambers and bore with Hoppes #9 - wipe it clean and give a touch of oil. I don't know anything about not using Hoppes #9, but I'm not worried about it.
Hoppes #9 is so popular and is used so much I can't see someone building a gun that #9 would hurt.
Do not do not do not use any sort of harsh degreaser - any of the brake cleaners in a can (Instaclean is the most common one for guns). It will eat right through the clearcoat. You should see my 637's backstrap. Luckily I didn't buy it to look at.
I agree, its what I have used on my guns for years. I havent had my 642 long but I use it on that also.
