The following pictures show the result of putting eight, yes, only eight, rounds of .357 Federal Premium 130 grain JHP through the 340 M&P with the Crimson Trace 405 grip. I had to finish the last two rounds with my left hand. I know... wussy.





I had put 30 rounds of .38 Special factory reloads through it with no problem.

I then went to Magtech Guardian Gold .38 Special +P 125 grain JHP for ten rounds. A bit more snappy, but not too bad. No cutting on the thumb so far.

I then wanted to try the .357 for ten rounds... WHY, YOU LITTLE #@*%*$& %&@$#%&!!!

The cylinder release latch hits my thumb knuckle. I'll need to be more aware of keeping my thumb low, or I'll just use the .38 +Ps.

Must be, but it only did it with the .357.

I hold it so that the inner portion of my thumb is resting on the crescent-shaped groove of the grip right where the grip meets the frame. Feels very natural that way.

I will need to concentrate on pulling my thumb down so that it touches my middle finger.

Seriously, if you radius that edge on the cylinder release latch you can probably prevent that from happening.
I don't know why S&W does not do that right at the factory.

the palm of my hand got caught between the mag and the gun as i was putting it in last week. drew blood pretty bad.

HAH!!! I know exactly how you feel. After going to the range, I ate Sunday dinner with the folks. My mom saw it immediately!!!

She knew I had just come from the range and asked how I hurt myself. I told her that I scraped it on a very rough edge of the shooting table.

She said, "Well, did you tell them about it? They should fix it."

Same thing happened when I used my 642 to qualify for my permit. 48 rounds of .38spl WWB, the knuckle of my shooting hand thumb was ripped up like yours and there was so much blood in the checkering on the cylinder release I had to let it dry and scrape it out with a dental pick.

A spur hammer on a 1911 (like my Mil-Spec) is always good for bloody hammer bite too. Just look at it this way ...... Chicks dig scars!
