Just got home - Updated: Range Report

With a Ruger SP101 DAO for the wife when her permit gets here. Very nice, tight lock-up. We are both going to the range tomorrow to christen it.

    Can't wait.

SP101s are built like a tank, aren't they? I really like mine. Enjoy it. Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately the revolver came with the hard plastic grips, just ordered the rubber monogrip from Ruger:

Plan on getting the CTC grips after the holidays.

They are indeed nice. I'd like to have one, but don't want to be buying .38 and .357 ammo.

With the price of ammo soon to be increasing after the first of the year,
I want to only have to buy .22 lr and 9mm. 9mm and .40 cal for reloading components.

Anyone else wish that RUGER would offer the SP 101 in 9mm again.

I don't see the wife ever shooting .357 mags, she isn't a big fan of recoil. We picked up some Federal Premium .38 PD Low Recoil 110g Hydra-Shok's along with a couple of boxes of WWB 130g FMJ range ammo. She will start out on the FMJ's to get comfortable, then a load of the Hydra-Shok's to see how she does with them.

Of course I bought a box of .357 mags for myself to play with. I don't currently reload, but I am saving all of my brass for when I pick up a Dillon.

I will post a range report and pic's after todays trip.

Of course if she is not happy with the 101, I will just have to keep it as a BUG.

    Well,

We just got back from the range, after putting 60 rounds of WWB 130 gr FMJ and 4 rounds of the Federal Hydra-Shoks through it.

First let me say that .357 mags through a small frame revolver HURT. I will be saving the rest of that ammo for a larger frame revolver that I will eventually get.

The wife did very well, this photo shows her last 15 shots (12 of them on the paper) at 7 yds using the WWB range ammo. Not too bad for a newbie shooter:

She was afraid to fire off the first round because she didn't know how she and the gun would react. After that first round though she happily fed it the other 59 rounds. We had to stop because sunset was approaching.

Anyhow, she will be practicing at least once every two weeks.

    Thanks,

    Mike
