If I were to sell/trade in my XD9 Service...

..how much should I expect for it? Its in great condition. I have all of the stuff it came with: 2 mags, XD gear holster, speed loader, case, and I even hve a blackhawk serpa holster I could toss in.

It only has about 1200 rounds through it.

Bought it last May (it was my first handgun) but now I want a 1911 .45

The only way I can get the 1911 is if I sell this bad boy first. How much is this worth? Whats the best way to sell it/ get the most money for it?

If you can get 500 for it you should take it. You shouldn't have to take less than 400.

Probably somewhere in the middle would be realistic.

I can tell you that the gun shop I work with, would recommend selling it to someone besides a store, which might be what you plan on doing... But here the gun shop sells used ones for $429 and new for $519.. So for us to make money we would only give you $375 max for everything

Book value for a mint SAXD9

service model is .... $464.00, but realistically, you should expect to get $400 - $430 for it.

Yes...I would sell it privately. If I remember correctly my XD9 cost me a little over $500 NIB. If I were selling I'd look for the best offer over $400.

I dont think you will do that well at all with a trade in... used XD's are a dime a dozen.
I'd throw an ad up here or sell it outright, you'll get a far better price. If you get more than 4 for it, you're lucky.

I would just trade it with cash for the 1911 of your choice. Thats what I did when I went from my used .40 service to a bnib .45 compact.

I was thinking of going that route. I wanted to trade my XD 9 service on a Glock at my local gunshop ; all he offered me was $335. I laughed and walked out!

Sell private. I was in the same boat as you (XD, .40, Tactical, with 2 extra factory mags). The gun shop offered $350. I laughed, and he told me to sell it private. I ended up selling it to a co-worker for $450. I think that was a fair deal for both of us.

I may end up selling it to a private party...I just need to find one. One of my friends is in the market for a gun, so maybe I can talk him into taking it off my hands. :)

You could try Gunbroker.com. As far as price, you'll definitely do better selling privately. Around here, the gun shops will usually give you 50% of the NIB price. As for me, I paid $509 for my XD 45 NIB at my local gun shop last year. I love my XD, and have no desire to sell it. I do want to eventually get a 1911, but just to have one. My XD will stay my primary carry weapon. And I'll buy an XD 45 tactical long before I'll get a 1911.

See if there is a state-specific CCW forum with a sales section in your area. I've had good luck both selling an buying in face to face deals on the Ohioans for Concealed Carry site. You might even find someone with a 1911 who wants to trade.

A gunshop will have to make a profit and has overhead to cover--You'll get significantly less than you would in a private sale.
